Activists interrupt Hilary Clintons speech at UMdProtestors demand response on immigration reformHilary Clinton speaks at UMd, heckled by immigration activistsBy: Emily Costa

According to Hilary Clinton, immigration reform is a concern for voters in the midterm elections. The former U.S. Secretary of State addressed this in her speech at the Anthony Brown rally at UMd on Thursday. A group of immigrant activists repeatedly interrupted Clinton during her speech to protest the tabled immigration reform. The U.S. is deporting thousands of undocumented immigrants and activists are frustrated Obama has not taken action on the issue. Clinton was in the middle of delivering her speech when a protestor shouted out My mother is a dreamer and lives in the fear of deportation everyday. Police officers immediately escorted the protestor out of the building. Clinton later addressed the important issue of immigration to the Democrats. If theyd just wait a little while I was getting to the Dream Act, Clinton said. Clinton said that all students should have the opportunity to work and study hard regardless of their parents immigration status. She assured the crowd that Brown is a strong supporter of immigration reform and will address the issue of deportation.(more)

E. Costa, Clinton, p.2DreamersClinton began to talk again, when another activist spoke out. The police officers were more potent in escorting the protestor out of the building, to enable minimal disruption. Clinton touched upon the issue of immigration, but the activists wanted to push her to be more outspoken on the issue. Clinton never seemed rattled, while heckled. A member of the Brown campaign and student at UMd, Grace Donohue felt concerned for Clinton. I did not want them to ruin her moment, Donohue said. The group of protestors was dispersed amongst the floor and the bleachers of Ritchie Coliseum, hoisting posters. This is an issue Democrats will continue to face and can no longer afford to avoid, at the expense of the election. ###-30-
