ENGINEERING & BUILT ENVIRONMENT FACILITIES

The Mactaggart Scott Hydraulics, Pneumatics And PLC LaboratoryThe MacTaggart Scott Hydraulics, Pneumatics and PLC Laboratory at our Midlothian campus provides a professional training facility to develop engineering skills. The next phase of equipment to be installed is planned to include wave and tide simulators, suitable for testing wave and tidal technology in the confines of a laboratory. This lab space also includes 3D modelling equipment.

Electric VehiclesWe are partnered with manufacturing giants Nissan, Mitsubushi and SEStran to place us at the forefront of technology with our own fleet of electric vehicles. In addition, the college has teamed up with Transport Scotland and The Energy Saving Trust to expand electric charge point provisions in our local areas. This presents fantastic opportunities throughout your training to ensure you are kept up-to-date with key manufacture vehicle information and gather data on performance and cost effectiveness along with our staff research.

Solar MeadowEdinburgh College has developed an excellent reputation for quality engineering training. The modern purpose built facilities include:

Edinburgh College is home to Scotland’s first Solar Meadow Teaching Centre. The Solar Meadow with over 2,500 photovoltaic panels is the first teaching project of its kind in Scotland that will help not only provide the next generation of engineers to develop essential skills for the growing renewable energy sector, but also allow the College to become less self-sufficient on more traditional forms of energy such as fossil fuels.

Developed by SSE Energy Projects, the Solar Meadow site works effectively as an outdoor classroom. The site will allow you to analyse the interaction between biodiversity and solar technology, as well as monitor and assess the operation and performance of solar panels.

CAMPUS OPEN DAYSHAIR & BEAUTY FACILITIESEdinburgh College is the first flagship Vocational Training Charitable Trust (VTCT) College in Scotland. This proffesional recognition goes to show the exceptional standard of facilities and training we provide.

Partnerships with industry experts; Wella, Elemis, and Dermologica allow us to offer the treatments with the best quality products. It also means we are able to offer you exciting oppertunities with national competitions and initiatives run by Wella and Elemis.

Edinburgh college became Scotland's first 'eco' college hair and beauty academy. The academy is the first of its kind to provide a range of environmental features, including special filtration hoods taht extract particles from the atmosphere to improve the air quality within the salon. This enables students who suffer from asthma to work.

The academy also offers a Nioxin clinic, in conjunction with Wella. The specialist clinic, which diagnoses hair and scalp problems and advises clients on effective solutions, is one of the first to be built within a college environment.

We work closely with high end brands, such as Elemis and Wella to provide you with the best training possible.

Training RestaurantsTo make sure you get first hand experience of what it is like to work in the industry we have two fully operational training restaurants which are open to the public, EH15 based at our Milton Road campus and The Apprentice based Granton campus.
