High Wycombe and District Rifle and Pistol Club Newsletter 013 January 2020 So, we finally leave the EU and I’m re-elected as chairman of the club for a second year on the same evening. I hope both turn out to be good decisions, I guess only time will tell. I’ll certainly do my best to make sure things at the club run as smoothly as possible, but any concerns or things you think could be improved just let me know. I have no control over Boris or the EU I’m afraid J A very warm welcome this month to four new probationary members; Julia Berridge, Paul Berridge, Gemma Kemsley and Robin Shields. All attended the last open day. A warm welcome too to Alex Smith who’s joined the Air Section (apologies I don’t have a photo yet). Congratulations to Jamie Simpson and Zulfi Ahmed for becoming full members this month. Well done to Dave Marriner, Mark Hewitson, Ray Atherley, Gill Ball, Rettna Balasubra Manian, Robert Arthurton and Mark Arthurton for all passing the NRA theory training this month too. I’ll be arranging the next course in the coming weeks. January saw the first of the year’s club open days which was very well supported. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it as had to take my mum to hospital, but thanks very much to Keith for organising it and to James, Dale, Brian, Geoff, Gareth and Nick for helping at it. Open days provide a great opportunity for local people to try the sport and also, as the pictures above prove, are a valuable source of new members. I have no idea what Keith’s limp wrist pose is demonstrating (“I’m a little teapot…..” maybe?) or how he came to be impaled by the bench come to that! Everyone had a great time and if you have friends or family that would like to give shooting a try the next open day at the club is Saturday 21 st March (sign up on the website), or bring them along to the club’s Bisley open days, the first one being on Sunday April 26 th (let me know or sign up on the form at the club). An update on Bisley dates, or rather the NRA have cancelled the one we had booked for Sunday 12th July as they’ve remembered the Imperial Meeting is then and they have a Historic Arms meeting on Short Siberia the whole weekend. I’ll try to rebook it as soon as possible but dates seem very hard to get for some reason at Bisley this year, I’ve been struggling to find dates for the long range competition too.
