Sabritec offers a complete line of electrical and optical contacts and connectors to satisfy all of your challenging High Speed data transmission requirements. When a rugged copper interface is required for your design, Sabritec offers differential twinax and quadrax connectors, contacts and cable assemblies for high speed Ethernet, Firewire, and Fibre Channel applications.
Differential pair quadrax and twinax connectorsand cable assemblies offer superior performancein high speed matched impedance data-on demand applications. The signal to signal and signal to shield characteristic impedance is maintained throughout the connector pair. A true twinaxial connector inter-face maintains signal integrity while minimizing jitter and bit error rates.
Sabritec’s advanced design capabilities meet or exceed both standard and non-standard protocols. Some of the more common protocols are the following:• Fibre Channel• Ethernet: 10 Base-T, 100 Base-T, 1000 Base-T• Firewire: IEEE 1394a and 1394b• USB, DVI, HDMI, and Infiniband
New Size 10 Quadrax/Twinax ContactsSabritec's size 10 Twinax and Quadrax contacts offer the best size to performance relationship in the industry. The precise control of the geometry within the contact gives rise to an ultra high performance contact that is only limited by the cable or PCB the system designer attaches to it. S-Parameter data generated from the 3-d model show less than 0.2dB loss, per mated pair, through a 10 GHz sweep, making this contact ideal for any of the high speed protocols on the market today. Indeed Fibre Chan-nel, Ethernet, Firewire (IEEE 1394) or other custom protocol driving multi-gigabit data rates can take ad-vantage of the electrical performance designed into each contact. The Size 10 gives the system designer new options for all their rugged high speed I/O. Features:

When a rugged optical interface is required for your design, Sabritec offers ruggedized connectors such as MIL-DTL-38999 to house fiber optic contacts in expanded beam and butt joint technologies. Size 5 & 12 expanded beam contacts, size 16 butt-joint, plastic optical, DIN and ARINC 801 termini technologies. These contacts are capable of supporting both Single mode and Multi mode applications.
Sabritec also offers Electro-Optical transceivers; a cutting edge fiber optic solution to enhance copper cabling byincorporating the industry’s most innovative fiber optic technology advancements. This copper-to-fiber Active Electro-Optical Cable Assembly Transceiver is ideal for high speed network and data communications in harsh environments. All fiber optic connectors and contacts are offered fully terminated and tested ensuring signal integrity for ruggedized application environments. When speci-fying these rugged connectors, Sabritec also offers a complete line of fiber optic connectors to terminate to the other end of the cables. These include Ruggedized Single Channel (RSC), FC, ST, LC Duplex/Simplex, MTP, MT-RJ and Ruggedized SC connectors.

Sabritec can offer numerous Eye Pattern mask tests; jitter measurement; skew measurement; along with S-parameter tests for various connector/contact types and impedance values. Our testing capabilities offer wide bandwidth support. (DC to 50 GHz with up to 12.5 GHz Trigger).
Sabritec utilizes the Tektronix CSA8000 to measure the differential pair TDR impedance between twinax connectors, cable assem-blies, and quad cable Fibre Channel interconnect systems. The CSA8000 ensures the most accurate acquired signal for high speed communications testing. CSA8000 testing features 20 GHz Bandwidth with 80E04 sampling module, 35 ps TDR Rise Time, Single Ended and Differential TDR and Crosstalk (NEXT and FEXT).
Based on CML standards currently in use in the industry, a 50mV Receiver input threshold is a typical minimum input level to define a valid differential signal. As you can see from the Eye Pattern Diagrams captured below on the Agilent E5071C Network Analyzer, at data rates of 3 Gbps the two representative Twinax 10 foot cable assemblies as well as the Quadrax cable assembly, all have wide open 'eyes' indicating excellent signal transmission capability. Indeed the data rate to transmission length could easily be extended 4 Gbps for 10 feet on the 24 AWG Twinax or the length increased to 20 feet at 3 Gbps again based on the 24 AWG Twinax , depending upon your system design needs.

Passive Equalizer Quadrax and Twinax Contacts
The Eye height and total jitter without Equalization is .225V, 481pS respectively.
The Eye height and total jitter with Equalization is .500V, 65pS jitter. N.B. An added benefit to maximizing the eye height parameter is
that the deterministic jitter also gets significantly reduced, as shown.
Passive Equalizer Typical Operating Characteristics
Sabritec’s Passive Equalizer contacts operate up to 12.5 GBPS and fits inside a standard Size 8 twinax/quadrax contact cavity for all connector formats. The passive equalizer requires no external power and acts like a high pass filter operating over an extreme temperature range. This compensates for the frequency dependant cable loss and helps to re-open the eye pattern on long cable runs allowing to pass higher data rates, for a given cable length, or extend the length of your cable at existing data rates.
Equalization is an important tool in any digital engineers toolkit. The robust ‘invisible to the user’ device will extend the reach of high speed digital signals without using any external system power or PC board real estate. It is intended for use in high speed (>2Gb/s) 100 Ohm differential pair interconnect applications. The unique design helps to offset those high frequency losses endemic to high speed digital interconnect paths that are primarily dispersive in nature. As an added benefit of its high pass characteristics, Inter Symbol Interference (ISI) is reduced as well as deterministic jitter. It is invaluable when trying to squeeze the last meter out of a cabling system that had been previously designed for slower data rate signals. Additionally, because of the nature of the equalizer it can be placed anywhere in the transmission path that is convenient to the system designer.

In-Line Quadsplitter Contact
Sabritec is now able to offer the best of both worlds with our In-Line Quadsplitter which offers another solution for extending the distance that High Speed signals can be sent over a Quadrax architecture. We can combine the signal integrity of Twinax cables and the connection density of Quadrax contacts by incorporating two 26 AWG Twinax cables into a standard Size 8 Quadrax contact. The resulting cable assembly is about the same size and weight as a 24 AWG Quadrax cable assembly and offers the same flexibility and ease of use.
The In-Line Quadsplitter can be used alone or in conjunction with the In-Line Equalizer. Many customers prefer the connection density and ease of use of Quadrax cables and connectors. Quadrax cables are limited in performance at higher data rates being used today due to the orthogonal construction of the quadrax cable due to crosstalk. Higher losses and frequency drop outs may adversely affect the integrity of the signal as compared to Twinax cables of similar size and construction.

Rugged D-Sub Part Connectors
High impedance D-Sub connectors are designed to ground the outer shield of a twinax or quadrax contact directly to the shell of the connector. A multi-finger ground spring, fixed around the shell provides a multi-point contact engagement for superior EMI shielding. The result is an extremely low contact resistance when measured from the contact outer body to the connector flange.
These connectors provide low RF noise and high durability of up to 1,000 mating cycles. Sabritec connectors meet or exceed all requirements of MIL-STD-202 for shock and
vibration. Offered with 100 ohm quadrax and/or differential pair twinax contacts. Consult factory when other imped-ances are required. The size 10 contacts are 30% smaller package size than standard size 9 for tight space constraints. These contacts offer the same performance in a much smaller package size.

Twinax 21 Position Backplane Ethernet Connectors
In standard VME cards for low data rate signaling, connectors are widely available to carry non-shielded signaling for the VME bus from the interface via motherboard to daughter card assembly designated as I/O plug-in modules. The industry standard defines these connectors typically as P1 and P3 connectors. Sabritec has taken the standard housing configuration of the P1 & P3 mounting dimen-sions while incorporating true differential pair contacts within the P1 & P3 dimensional constraints. Data sampling rates exceeding 2 Gbits/second can be driven via matched
impedance differential pair interconnections for board-to-board high speed data transfer as well as blind mate I/O plug in modular applications. Sabritec's P1 connector housing contains 21 position true differential pair blind mate contacts allowing board design-ers to carry high density differential pair signals from the LRU via motherboard to daughter-card plug in modules with a single connector P1 type housing. This allows for the use of standard VME bus architecture cages for high speed fibre channel connection.

Micro Quadrax and Twinax Connectors
Micro Quadrax ConnectorsMicro quadrax connectors are designed for differ-ential pair matched impedance applications utiliz-ing quadrax cable consisting of four wires where the diagonal pair of conductors forms a differential twinax pair. These connectors have a low impedance ground shield and are ideal for Ethernet (100 and 1000 Base-T), IEEE 1394 Firewire, USB, DVI and Infiniband applications with 100 Ohm differential impedance.
The micro quadrax connectors maintain the signal to shield impedance throughout the mated connec-tor pair (quad configuration applications exceeding 1 Gbit/sec) and are available in threaded versions in-cluding straight and right angle cable mount and PCB mount configurations.
Micro Twinax Connectors
The Micro Twinax line features matched impedance miniaturized connectors that provide the user with controlled impedance and tightly spaced PCB footprint spacing. These connectors are available in true differential twinax packages with NDL, SMA, and Micro D size constraints.
The NDL Micro Twinax Series is offered in threaded and quick disconnect styles and are 25% smaller in diameter than SMA coaxial connectors. The quick disconnect version has a diameter of .250” max and the threaded version has .250” Hex coupling nut. These connectors replace the standard NDL Triax series for higher speed balanced Twinax applications.
These connectors are applicable for High-Speed Ethernet (100 and 1000 Base-T), Fibre Channel (>1 GBit/sec), IEEE 1394 Firewire , USB, DVI and Infiniband applications with 100 or 150 Ohm differential pair impedance.

Sabritec's Micro-D Twinax Connectors (MDTX) offer twinax blindmate assemblies fitted into a low-profile metalized Micro-D style shell. This series allows for modularity of PCB routing of high speed signaling capable of 100 Ohm differential pair matched impedance for IEEE 1394b firewire and gigabit Ethernet applications in a size 10 twinax contact. These connectors allow for maximum space utilization, ultra miniature size, high vibration capability and are extremely light weight and modular with true signal integrity. Insert arrangements are available in 2, 4, 6 and 8 way twinax assemblies with mixed signal and power contacts available in hybrid layouts. These connectors are available with locking post mechanisms or blind mate features.

Sabritec’s Dura Speed line offers true differential pair matched impedance Twinax and Quadrax contacts where the differential pair and signal to shield impedance is maintained throughout the connector pair. These rugged low insertion force/high mating cycle precision contacts are capable of withstanding a minimum of 6,000 mating cycles. All Dura Speed Quadrax (DSQ) and Twinax (DST) contacts are designed to fit Sabritec's standard cavities of existing connector formats for our high speed product lines which include MIL-DTL-38999, ARINC 600 and Rugged D-Subminiature.
The innovative new line of ruggedized Twinax and Quadrax contacts are ideal for blind mate I/O plug in modular applications, board to board high speed data transfer applications exceeding 2 Gbits/second, as well as circular and rack and panel connector applications. For applications requiring a minimum of 10,000 mating cycles, Hypertac’s Hyperboloid® contacts are used for the center signal and outer body contacts for all Quadrax and Twinax contacts. Sabritec’s ARINC 600 connector series is designed for interconnect systems including 100 Base-T, Ethernet, and high speed video Hot-Link. These connectors can be fitted with Ethernet based Quad 100 Ohm contacts or differential pair 100 Ohm or 150 Ohm matched impedance contacts.
The ARINC 600 Series can also be routed with ruggedized expanded beam fiber optic contacts or con-centric triaxial contacts designed for numerous low-loss twinaxial and concentric triax cables in a variety of impedance values.

Sabritec’s Electro-Optical Cable Assembly Transceiver is a cutting edge fiber optic solution to enhance copper cabling by incorporating the industry’s most innovative fiber optic technology advancements. This copper-to-fiber Active Electro-Optical Cable Assembly Transceiver is ideal for high speed network and data communications in harsh environments.
The cable assembly consists of a fiber optic transceiver packaged inside a MIL-DTL-38999 electrical plug connector and can be used with existing boxes with no need to convert the box to fiber optic configuration. This technology creates solutions for issues faced by the demanding wiring applications of the aerospace industry including but not limited to: delivering high bandwidth, long signal propagation and immunity to electronic noise and electromagnetic pulses.
The Electro-Optical Cable Assembly Transceiver features a full electrical interface which is environmentally hardened and designed for use in harsh environments for reliable operation over extended temperature ranges.
For applications requiring up to 500 meters of link distances, the fiber optic transmitter consists of a 850nm VCSEL laser with multi-mode fiber optic cable. The receiver consists of an integrated 850nm PIN-Preamplifier. For those requiring up to 10km of link distances, the fiber optic transmitter consists of a 1310nm Fabry Perot laser with single-mode fiber optic cable. The receiver section consists of an integrated 1310nm PIN-Preamplifier.
Transmitter inputs are differential LVPECL compatible and receiver outputs are differential CML receiver has a LVTTL compatible signal detect output to indicate the presence of valid data at the input of the fiber optic receiver.
The following are the versions that can be offered:
• Active cable with 1 fiber optic module: 1 transceiver, or 2 transmitters, or 2 receivers. • Active cable with 2 fiber optic modules: 2 transceivers, or 4 transmitters, or 4 receivers.
In addition to the above combination we can offer straight backshell or right angle backshell for the active cable.

The ARINC 801 Fiber Optic Termini is the next generation of butt-joint interconnect technology allowing for higher density multichannel connectors to be achieved. With its standard 1.25 mm ferrule and sleeve, the ARINC 801 Termini is designed for both multi-mode and single-mode applications and is compatible with standard LC termination processes. The Termini is available both as a pull-proof design and a general use design for tight jacketed cable.
For the pull-proof design, the cable jacket is crimped on an external body and a floating mechanism avoids any loss of performance when pulling on the cable. This feature allows for the use of the connector without a backshell. Standard connector formats include MIL-DTL-38999 Series III type, MIL-DTL-83527 type, ARINC 600 and ARINC 781.
ARINC 801 fiber optic termini are available with APC (angle polish). The angle – between 5 and 15 degrees – on the termini tip prevents excessive back reflection - light that reflects from the interface and travels back up the fiber. These angle-polished connectors should only be mated to other angle-polished connectors as mating to a non-angle polished connector can cause very high insertion loss.
Sabritec has successfully passed qualification testing of its Size 16 ARINC 801 Termini for single and multi-mode applications. Qualification test results show that Sabritec’s ARINC 801 Termini maintains its low loss while being intermateable/interoperable with qualified termini and connectors. Sabritec’s Expanded Beam Fiber Optic Contact technology is specifically designed to fit into standard size 12 cavities of MIL-DTL-38999 Series I, III and IV connectors. The size 12 contact provides a robust fiber optic interconnection with low suscepti-bility to contamination and fits a variety of cable types with diameters from 1.6 to 2.2 mm with additional versions available upon request. Plastic Optical Fiber Termini
Sabritec offers Polymer Optic Fiber (POF) size 16 contacts for MIL-DTL-38999 connector shells. POF contacts, where both the fiber core and the cladding are made of polymer, have been on the market for many years. Key advantages of polymer optical fibers are high flexibility and more economical connect-ing and transmission technology than in the case of glass. This type of fiber has all the major benefits of a glass fiber optic cable connection but at a reduced cost.
POF assemblies possess special characteristics that make this product an ideal solution for applications which traditional glass fiber products are not well suited. For applications requiring a very tight bend radius, POF products can generally bend to 25mm with no excessive attenuation.
