Challenge Us3 fully equipped Application Labs

provide advanced CO2 laser

applications and materials testing for

OEMs, integrators, material

manufacturers, and end users

worldwide.

Synrad offers CO2 laser application testing to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM), laser system integrators, material manufacturers, processors, and end users of automated machinery. We are CO2 laser experts, and understand the parameters that will ensure successful, efficient CO2 laser processing.

• Determine optimal laser power and wavelength - Applications Engineers will use the latest high performance CO2 lasers available from Synrad. Combined with a full complement of beam delivery systems Synrad Applications Engineers will determine the optimal laser power and wavelength for your exact application and target material.

• Uncover processing know-how and best practices - based on your specific requirements, and using actual materials and/or parts, Synrad Application Engineers will conduct tests using multiple laser configurations and settings to determine the best processes to achieve your desired results. A full report will be provided that details processing steps and best practices.

• Investigate new techniques - we have the added ability to investigate new laser techniques, test new materials for laser-process-ability, and solve laser processing challenges.

All Synrad lasers are designed, engineered, and manufactured in one facility located in Washington state. Having one centralized operation enables our entire team to work closely with one another. Applications Engineers work closely with our Design and Production Engineers to quickly solve challenges. This unique ability is invaluable for our customers; questions are answered quickly and challenges are met with hands-on tested solutions.

In-Person Application Testing - direct participation in the applications test is available at any regional Synrad Applications Lab. Direct participation is encouraged for new processing systems and/or applications. The advantage being real-time interaction that can result in faster, more efficient communication and alternative problem solving.

The Novanta AdvantageAs a Novanta company, Synrad has unique access to advanced industry expertise and laser related products. Advancements in materials science, manufacturing processes, semiconductor manufacturing, and software drive the need for improvements in the precision, speed, size, quality, and reliability of critical manufacturing processes. Novanta’s photonics, vision and precision motion component and subsystem solutions meet these needs in growth markets, including Fine Material Processing, Electronics, Metrology, and Robotics & Factory Automation.

Kiss Cutting - requires good power density stability to control cutting only the top layer, avoiding cut-through at corners and around curves. Synrad Applications Engineers found a solution to this challenge thorough a combination of a CO2 laser and an advanced 3-axis scanning head.

High Speed Processing - requires higher power and a matched beam delivery system. Working with our Development Engineers and other Novanta companies, Synrad Applications Engineers created custom laser processing sub-assemblies to achieve high throughput speeds.

Thin Films & Foils - now commonly found in packaging, electronics, and more are unique in their composition and processing characteristics. Synrad Applications Engineers have identified the optimal components to create laser processing systems that deliver crisp cut edges.

High-Tech Fabrics - perforations, complex cuts, heating/cooling channels, and patterning are commonly found in new high-tech textiles. Synrad Applications Engineers use CO2 lasers with high peak pulse power to avoid melt lips and charring, combined with higher continuous power for faster throughput speeds.

Flexible Packaging - micro-perfs for breathe-ability, easy tear scoring and perforating on new multi-layer materials, high-speed, flex-volume production are solved on a case-by-case basis by Synrad Applications Engineers. High performance CO2 laser processing systems are uniquely suited for these applications.

Ablation - the precise removal of target material to create permanent marks and codes is a common application for Synrad CO2 lasers. Ablation is being considered as a new manufacturing technique and Synrad Applications Engineers provide testing in a number of areas including medical/life sciences and precision manufacturing.

Innovation Created By CO2 Laser ExpertsWith more than 25 years of CO2 laser engineering experience, Synrad has had the benefit of establishing new processes and applications for our high performance CO2 lasers. We welcome the opportunity to work with OEMs, integrators, and end users to define and systematize new CO2 laser applications to improve process-ability and manufacturing efficiency.

Test Equipment - Each Applications Lab is equipped with a full range of Synrad high performance CO2 lasers and scanning heads to cover a broad spectrum of materials and applications. A range of XY gantry systems, beam delivery systems (cutting and marking heads), power meters and diode pointers complement our lasers and scanning heads. To analyze laser processing results, Applications Engineers utilize microscopes, IR spectrometers, and bar code readers.
