Having weighed up the situation, GIESSE set out to develop a new technology that would allow the construction of sliding doors and windows ensuring high performance in terms of noise reduction and insulation against the weather, and yet genuinely competitive from the standpoint of cost, when compared to similar systems available on the international market.

There is an increasing demand in today's global construction market for windows and doors offering better and better sound insulation, able to keep out the high volumes of noise generated typically in metropolitan city centres.In the big cities, contemporary architects are creating higher and higher buildings of innovative design, which need window fixtures capable of ensuring optimum wind resistance. Then there is the wet weather. Every year the rains fall heavier and harder, and windows must be able to withstand pressures of at least 300 Pa.

There are plenty of good quality systems on the market, but the vast majority of them do not meet these requirements. With the GOS-S system, GIESSE offers a dependable solution, successful the world over, which has raised the performance of sliding fixtures doors to a level comparable with that of casements. GOS-S both meets and exceeds all the key minimum requirements: sound attenuation of 40 dB and 1050 Pa water resistance (in accordance with European standard EN 14351-1).

In reality, GOS-S is a high end system delivering top performance – certainly not the kind of product designed for home improvement centres and convenience hardware stores.

The GOS-SL system uses a limited number of profiles (same as for traditional sliding fixtures) to make a variety of types of windows and doors (2, 3 and 4 sashes).

The GOS-SL sealing system is made up of gasket seals, special plugs and foam strips, which not only keep out air and water, but provide efficient sound insulation as well.

A new generation of hardware items has been specially designed to maximize the performance of the system. The range enables fabrication of window and door fixtures in all sizes, with 2, 3 and 4 sashes.

GOS-SL profiles for doors and windows are diversified to minimize the gauge and the weight of the extruded aluminium, while maintaining the same high performance of the system.

Whilst the two systems are identical geometrically, the gauge of the aluminium used for the window sash profile is optimized compared to that of the door profile, in order to minimize weight while continuing to maximize performance for each type of product.

In traditional sliding window and door systems, transverse heat losses through the surface combine with significant longitudinal losses attributable to the fact that the metal parts of the frame are exposed both to the internal and to the external environment.

In the GOS-SL system, longitudinal heat losses are eliminated by incorporating a thermal break into the profiles.

Nonetheless, the thermal break alone is not enough to guarantee top performance in terms of thermal insulation. In practice, a dispersion of heat occurs between the outer sash frame and the inner sash frame, where the thermal break is not maintained, which means that the effectiveness of the thermal insulation is compromised in part.Accordingly, GIESSE has patented a special device known as T-REX® which is designed to maintain the thermal break all the way around the perimeter of the fixture.

The T-REX® joint is installed centrally on the upper and lower rails of the frame, where the uprights of the two sashes meet. With this arrangement, the frame incorporates a continuous thermal break occupying the same plane as the thermal break in the sashes. The centrally positioned T-REX® is designed to join up the thermal breaks of the frame, which occupy different planes, thereby establishing a continuous longitudinal thermal insulation barrier.

In effect, the resulting thermal break is not conventionally rectilinear, but segmented to create a "Z" profile. In short, the T-REX® device creates a fully effective thermal break in the longitudinal direction.

CONNECTIONS

GOS-SL cremones are equipped with a drive linkage for operation of the foolproof safety device. The device is designed to lock the cremone in 2 positions (0° and 180°) and disallows movement of the rod when the sash is open. This means that the grip can be handled comfortably and confidently when opening and closing the sash.

FRAME HARDWARE KIT

This kit includes all the necessary components for assembly of the frame, which are essential in order to guarantee maximum performance in terms of air/water/wind resistance.The kit contains:• T-REX plugs for top and bottom rails• sealing inserts for butt-jointed frame members• foam strips for central sash upright• plugs for drip rail profile

Besides maximizing performance in terms of thermal insulation, the-REX® feature also includes a sophisticated water drainage system that dispenses with the need for machining of the profile. The system incorporates a valve designed to prevent any infiltration of water into the fixture when exposed to high winds.

SASH HARDWARE KIT

One kit includes all the necessary components for a single GOS-SL sash. These components and their correct assembly are essential in order to ensure maximum system performance.The kit contains:• mitred corner joint connectors• alignment connectors (with/without rod guide)• foam strip holder plugs• foam strips• concealer plugs• anti-lift plugs

GIESSE has designed a new generation of sash corner connectors, using an innovative assembly and fixing system that guarantees the corner joint considerable toughness and strength.

The anti-lift damper plugs prevent any potentially damaging collision between sash and frame, as well as rendering the fixture suitably intruder-resistant.

FIXED SASH KIT

A set of components for securing a fixed sash to the frame. No special preparatory work is required, and the sash can also be removed without difficulty for inspection purposes, when required.
