This course, in turn, will not only expose the college-bound student to literary classics, but will additionally provide you with a multicultural understanding of the world, enabling you to develop a tolerance and respect for our differences. Your experience in taking this course will be extremely beneficial as you develop critical thinking and writing skills for college. Procedures and Guidelines In order for all of us to have a successful year, the following procedures and guidelines must be followed. 1. Show respect This goes for the teacher, classmates, classroom, and materials/items in the classroom. There is no eating or drinking in class. 3. Be preparedEvery day you MUST bring a pen, your notebook/binder with paper in it, your textbook/readings, and any other materials deemed necessary by the instructor. Being prepared for class is included in your grade! If we are home or you are opting in to remote instruction, you will be expected to attend the virtual sessions and be prepared for any classwork then.

4. ParticipationYou are required to participate in class. This means you are on time, seated when the bell rings, are prepared for class, listen, ask questions, and do your best on all assignments. We will explain in detail what your participation grade will entail. If you are remote, then turning work in on time and participating in our Google Meets will assist you in the grade category.

5. AbsenceYou are required and it is your responsibility to make up any work that is missed due to an absence. When you are out of the classroom for extended periods of time, you are considered absent and will be written up for a cut.

6. Late PolicyLate work will not be accepted! If the assignment is not handed in on the due date, it counts as a zero. The only time I will accept an assignment after the due date is for an excused absence, otherwise every assignment must be handed in on time, NO EXCEPTIONS!

7. HomeworkAlways must be done on time. Homework will not be accepted late.

8. CheatingYou will receive an automatic zero if caught cheating on a test/quiz, or plagiarizing writing assignments.

9. Discipline SystemPlease note there will be consequences for poor behavior:

11. GradingYour grade is determined using a points system. Your grade will be determined from quizzes/tests, reader responses, homework, classroom work, and participation. You will be informed how much quizzes, tests, and writing assignments are worth when they are assigned.

Course Requirements:

• Summer Reading • Daily readings from text - Prentice-Hall, Literature: World Masterpieces • Quizzes/Tests• Reading Analysis Papers following each unit• Various Writings: College essay, Personal Narrative, Compare and Contrast, “One Pagers,” etc.• Entire Vocab. Book – 1 unit per week – completed unit always due Thursday, test on Friday• Research paper (any aspect of World Literature) – guidelines to be outlined and discussed in class • Final Exam – cumulative – NO MID-TERM!
