AS WE GATHER: When it comes to human love, it’s fair to
say that it comes in different degrees. For instance, even with
just a little love for someone, you might be willing to help
carry some groceries or get their mail while they’re out of
town. But if you have a greater love for someone, you might
be open to caring for them when they’re sick or helping them
move into a new home. The greatest demonstration of love,
however, is to lay down your life for someone else. There’s
no greater sacrifice one can make for another. And yet, that’s
exactly what Jesus did for us, even though so often we are
unloving and unlovable people. “But God shows His love for
us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”
(Romans 5:8).
PRAYER BEFORE WORSHIP: O God, You made a
promise to Abraham that seemed impossible to keep, and yet
You did. Give us confidence in Your promises revealed to us
in Your Word; yhrough Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord,
who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God,
now and forever.

most grievous fault; wherefore I pray God
Almighty to have mercy on me, forgive me all
my sins, and bring me to everlasting life. Amen.
People: The almighty and merciful Lord grant you
pardon, forgiveness, and remission of all
your sins. Amen.

HYMN OF CONFESSION “Chief of Sinners Though I Be”
Chief of sinners though I be,
Jesus shed his blood for me,
Died that I might live on high,
Lives that I might never die.
As the branch is to the vine,
I am his, and he is mine.
O my Savior, help afford
By your spirit and your Word!
When my wayward heart would stray,
Keep me in the narrow way;
Grace in time of need supply
While I live and when I die.

HYMN OF THE DAY “A Lasting Promise We Receive”
Sung to LW 107
A lasting promise we receive
As children, chosen to believe.
A multitude of holy heirs
Await the home the Son prepares.
We have obtained the Father’s grace
Because our Savior took our place.
The Spirit pours into our hearts
The love His gracious will imparts.
Yet while we wait, we bear the cross
Of earthly sorrow, pain, and loss.
But what are these? For Jesus bore
All things, that we will gain much more.
Therefore, we trust the promise made
And sealed in blood, the ransom paid.
The darkest night will die away;
Our Lord took all, to grant the Day.

The Apostles Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and
earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was
conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary;
Suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified dead and buried;
He descended into Hell; the third day he rose again from the
dead; He ascended into heaven and sits on the right hand of
8
God the Father Almighty; From thence he shall come to judge
the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Christian Church, the
communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection
of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
SERMON
OFFERTORY (sung to page 175 LW)
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit
within me, Cast me not away from Thy presence; and take not
Thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy
salvation; and uphold me with Thy free spirit. Amen.

Thee and the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world
without end.

LENTEN SERVICES -
Wednesday, February 28, Lenten Midweek 3 – 7:00 PM: “Return to the Lord, Who Will Restore You, Jeremiah 15:19–
21” “I will make it as good as new.” Those words of
reassurance can provide a sense of relief and encouragement
when something is broken and in need of repair. The Word of
the Lord that came to the people of Israel through the prophet
Jeremiah brought the promise of restoration to better days of
living in harmony with God. It also brought a sense of hope.
God said, “I will restore you; I will deliver you.” There is no
“I might or I might not” when God promises something. God
has kept and continues to keep His promises—we can count
on that!
March 1, 3rd
Lenten Thursday Service – 10:00 AM “God’s
Will And My Dreams” In this service for Week 2 of Lent, we
remember that, anointed by God to rule in Judah, King David
followed God’s will to shepherd his people, but often failed to
live up to God’s dream for him. We welcome the Good
Shepherd into our lives who fulfills God’s dream perfectly to
gather his wandering sheep into the sheepfold of heaven.
13
Easter Lilies – We will be getting some Easter Lilies again
this year from Seitter’s Flower Market. They will be $8.99
for each plant. We will have to let Seitter’s know by
Monday, March 5th
. Please let Mary Sprick know if you
would like to place an Easter Lily in our Church at Easter
time. Please fill out the insert in our bulletin and place it in
the collection plate or give to Mary or place it on the desk in
the office. Thank you!

Life Thoughts for February 25 “So when we see the
embryo … in that petri dish—vulnerable, helpless, and
destined for destruction—we are compelled to speak and
defend and help. And not because it is the right thing to do or
the moral thing to do, but because it is the Christ thing to do.
Our God became incarnate as an embryo, giving value to all
embryos.” Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb, former executive director
of Lutherans For Life – A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life
• www.lutheransforlife.org
Stewardship Thoughts based on Today’s Lesson,
February 25 Mark 8:32 – “And he said this plainly. And
Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.” Anytime we
sin we are acting like Peter: thinking we know better than the
Lord. But as Jesus says, such acts stem from Satan. So let us
repent: let us trust our Lord Jesus and follow Him. For
certainly He has earned our trust with His gracious sacrifice
for us.
March 4 Lutheran Hour Message "When God's Darkness
Surrounds You " Guest Speaker: Rev. Dr. Dale A. Meyer. When times are darkest,
God wants you to know how close He really is. It's in those
15
threatening times that you can especially learn and live in His love.
