Heneral Luna

Heneral Luna Heneral Luna is a film about the life of Gen. Antonio Luna, in his battles against the Americans and his fellow Filipinos. It rings truest in the Philippines, where history, or at least the one that was made to instill with us is an illusion of a pristine and glorious nation, is as fragrant and perfect as a fairy tale. Filipinos have been led to believe in that the country was born from the untainted bravery of our forefathers who dispelled the colonizers with both their words and weapons. However, this history that we are enjoying is one painted with lies and half-trues about what really happened. Those details of the nation’s past that may or may not have more lasting impact on us are either left or forgotten. Distilled lies and treachery, all that is left are perfumed memories that can only fuel a pride that may be as misplaced as it is dangerous. Those lies were exposed in the film, especially on how Luna died in the hands of his fellow Filipinos who only follow Cavitenos. It is also showed in the film that our forefathers are not trusting each other, for they have different ideas on things and some of them only follow their fellow from their region. Like in the words of Rizal that a slave of tyranny doesn’t have the right to have independence, if one is becoming the tyrant of tomorrow.

Heneral Luna

Heneral Luna is a film about the life of Gen. Antonio Luna, in his battles against the

Americans and his fellow Filipinos. It rings truest in the Philippines, where history, or at least the one that

was made to instill with us is an illusion of a pristine and glorious nation, is as fragrant and perfect as a

fairy tale.

Filipinos have been led to believe in that the country was born from the untainted

bravery of our forefathers who dispelled the colonizers with both their words and weapons. However, this

history that we are enjoying is one painted with lies and half-trues about what really happened. Those

details of the nation’s past that may or may not have more lasting impact on us are either left or forgotten.

Distilled lies and treachery, all that is left are perfumed memories that can only fuel a pride that may be as

misplaced as it is dangerous. Those lies were exposed in the film, especially on how Luna died in the

hands of his fellow Filipinos who only follow Cavitenos.

It is also showed in the film that our forefathers are not trusting each other, for they have

different ideas on things and some of them only follow their fellow from their region. Like in the words of

Rizal that a slave of tyranny doesn’t have the right to have independence, if one is becoming the tyrant of

tomorrow.
