Henderson Police suggest that trick-or-treating take place during the hours of 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Children should always be accompanied by an adult and are encouraged to wear bright clothing and masks that do not hinder their vision. If kids are mature enough to be out without supervision, they should stick to familiar areas that are well lit and trick-or-treat in groups. Plan and review your child’s trick-or-treating route. Remind kids to accept treats only at the door. Everyone should wear a highly visible or reflective costume and carry a flashlight or glow sticks when trick-or-treating. Stay on sidewalks, walkways and paths. Always cross the street at corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic as far to the left as possible. Children should walk on direct routes with the fewest street crossings. Walk! Remind kids to walk in their costumes to prevent trips and falls. Carry a charged cell phone in case of emergency. Make sure trick-or-treaters eat a good meal before going trick-or-treating. Drivers, slow down in residential neighbor hoods and school zones. Check your child’s candy before you allow them to eat it. Report any suspicious person or activity to the Henderson Police immediately by calling 911.
