President’s Message Sue Hoecker
Vice President’s Message Mary Dawn Ditty
Bonnie Hunter: I will admit this only to the guild, but I truly
didn’t know who Bonnie Hunter was until I had to handle this
program. Who knew we were going to host a quilting “rock
star?” I have gotten inquiries from at least 10 states! We even
have a guest flying here from Germany to attend Bonnie’s
workshops. Over half those attending our workshops are from
outside our guild!
Every day, I receive more inquiries from people who would like
to attend. I believe they follow her blog and notice where she
will be on her calendar. As of today, we have a waiting list of at
least 8 people!
There will be NO pre-meeting workshop this month with
Marti Chamberlain due to the extra activity with our speaker,
Bonnie Hunter. There will be two workshops this month, too,
held at Wyoming Methodist church. We expect many guests so
please extend a greeting to everyone to welcome
them. Introduce yourself to someone you don’t know, and tell
them about Helping Hands. There will be bookmarks
and business cards available for all guests.
Quilters Lunch & Learn is October 22. Buy your tickets this
meeting if you haven’t already. It promises to be a day of
fellowship, sharing and lots of shopping opportunities. A separate
article in this newsletter outlines the day.
Save the date: December 15th!!! A Holiday luncheon is being
planned in conjunction with the drawing of the winner for our
raffle quilt. Stay tuned for further details.
I want to end by thanking our Helping Hands’ Board. You have
the best team of ladies working constantly to make our quilting
experience a great one. Please let them know you appreciate
what they do. Names listed in “Officers and Committee Chair”
column. Sue Hoecker

Helping Hands Newsletter
Summer has officially ended and everyone seems to be
settling into a new routine. Personally, I am happy to know the
heat of summer is behind us and look forward to the quilt
activities planned.
We thank Marion Lundgren who was with us last month to
share her quilt journey. Her story was so real
and heartwarming. The evening culminated by two Quilts of
Valor quilt presentations to David Cass, a Vietnam Veteran who
shared his story, and our own Mary Kokoszka, who recently
retired from the Air Force. Mary worked in the mortuary at
Dover AFB and detonated bombs as part of her job.
Our website is constantly being updated by Mary Dawn
Ditty and Patricia Kokoszka to bring you the latest
information. Cindy King recently joined the Board and will be
helping with the website and workshop coordination.
Please note in March, Patricia will be taking pictures for
those. who missed our first sitting and new 2016
members. Bring your favorite quilt and be a part of our
directory.
Show and Tell Sue Hoecker
Show ‘n Tell for this month only:
Please bring one or two of your favorite Bonnie Hunter
quilts to share. Only Bonnie Hunter patterns this month…we
will resume all show ‘n tell next month.
Thank you.
Bonnie writes a regular column in Quiltmaker magazine entitled
“Addicted to Scraps.” She advocates going beyond saving your
scraps and gives us ways to USE our scraps. She is the author of
at least 7 quilt books.
In short, we are having a teacher who is fun and talented and
entertaining. She has been easy to communicate with as well.
For our evening program, Bonnie will show some of her quilts in
addition to her lecture, “Scrap User’s System.” She will have
some of her books for sale at our meeting. Cont. p2

Please, be aware that we are expecting many guests who are interested in hearing Bonnie. Plan to help us give them a warm
Helping Hands welcome!
We plan to set up every chair in the church hall so we will not be able to set up any tables to sit or eat at.
October Program: We will welcome Pat Yamin at our October meeting. She comes to us from Brooklyn and will be very entertaining.
Plan to be there!
Save the Date! Our regular meeting in April 2017 will be postponed to Wednesday, May 3, 2017. See article below.

Come see what we are all about, or take home a kit from the
guild meeting and at least make the top for us. We ordered over
400 labels from the printer in Dover recently and it is about a
year and a half since we had ordered them previously. That
shows how productive we are!
As always, please do not hesitate to contact me in regard to
any aspect of QFO, and don't forget, you can always ask for a
quilt for someone in need...the finished quilts aren't doing anyone
any good sitting in a pile at my house. Ann Fischer, Coordinator, QFO 302-744-9786
Quilting for Others will next meet on Tuesday, OCTOBER 11
at 6 p.m. at the VFW Hall in Camden. It will be a cutting session
to get a pile of fat quarters cut into strips, then the strips put
together into kits for tops. So if you come, you will need to bring
your rotary cutting set. It will be fun to mix and match the
strips for the kits when the fat quarters are all cut.
We are continuing to have a great year, with many of the ladies
doing plenty of work even in the Summer months. But now the
season to use a quilt is just about upon us, and we always welcome
new ladies to our meetings.
Our 2016 UFO Challenge ends in September. Our
"Unfinished Objects" challenge has been a fun way to
motivate some of us to actually work on a few of those
unfinished projects that plague many quilters like me.
For those individuals who always finish one project
before they start another; I commend and admire you, but
I do not understand you.
The goal may just be to complete a few blocks, do a
binding, or possibly assemble a quilt top. It is totally up to
you how much you want to accomplish. It has been my
experience that the people who totally frustrate
themselves often pick lofty goals, and set themselves up
for disappointment. I have never had a single person tell
me they suddenly had tons of unexpected time to kill,
but many people relate a crisis that takes all their time
and drains their energy.
The group will start in January and every other month a project
is due. We always start with project #1, but from then on, we will
draw another number. If you complete your project on time, you
earn a chance to receive a nice prize at the end of the
year. People who complete at least 5 of their projects on time
receive an extra 6 chances to win. You can give me a copy, call
me, or email your list. I am delighted with the number of quilts I
have finished just because doing a few blocks for that quilt was on
my list. During the year, I have also started several more quilts,
so I don't see myself ever running out of UFOs.
Call or email me if you have questions:

Quilting For Others News Ann Fischer
Just a quick mention that the Member Directory was
a success and there will be another event!
During the March 2017 Quilt Meeting there will be an
opportunity to have your Photograph taken. All members,
especially new members, that do not have an image in the
directory are encouraged to bring their favorite quilt and
have it as the background of their portrait.
This will be the only chance to have your photograph taken, so
please plan accordingly. Patricia Kokoszka will be the
photographer and any further inquiries should be directed to
her. [email protected].
This year’s guild auction—the Stash Relocation Event— is going to be
held at the November guild meeting on November 28th. The
committee has met, and the evening has been planned for FUN with
both a silent auction and a traditional auction along with
refreshments.
If you cannot make the meetings, call Ellen Malenfant (302-
492-8715) to make arrangements for pickup.
Donated items for our auction are
starting to flow in, but we need more of
you to CLEAN HOUSE. We can use all
your unused and never going to use
quilting and sewing items that someone
else will love to win at the auction and take home—items like
jelly rolls, rulers, fabric, kits. We will gladly accept any and all
quilting or sewing items.
NOW—bring them to the September meeting or contact me
and I will pick them up at your home. We’re here to make your
Fall Clean-Up easy for you—no need to keep the clutter at your
home, you can clean-up now. What a great way to relocate your
items and help the guild!
