    TO THE READER

The Jewish Question and its solution by means of the return of theJews to Palestine, is of central interest to-day to Jews the world over, and,in certain measure, also to other nations. A tragic epoch has visitedhumanity. A quarter of a century has passed since the civilised worldembarked on a "war to end war", and during that whole period we havewitnessed incessant warfare.

At such a time, when men whose hearts still beat to the pulse ofhumanity are overcome with bewildered anguish and despair at the courseof world events, it is seemly to return once more to the sphere of ir-rationalism, and to examine again the Book of Books, that immortal workwhich transformed idol worshippers into followers of justice and culture, and influenced a world of savage egotism to accept the ethics of humani-tarianism.

Hence we present this booklet of Bible extracts to the enlightenedreader. The Jewish National Fund at Jerusalem, to which world Jewryhas entrusted the function of redeeming its ancestral land for the sakeof future generations, has collected from the Holy Bible these passageswhich testify to the immortal, indissoluble bonds which bind the Peopleof Israel with the Land of Israel. May world Jewry draw from theseeternal words increased encouragement and devotion and faith in theultimate fulfilment of the promise they contain. May the other nations, the roots of whose culture are imbedded in the Bible, and more particularlythe peoples of the British Empire, draw from them full consciousness oftheir moral obligation toward the Jewish people.
