INTRODUCTION

Vindija was founded in 1959. as small dairy and initially had only 20 employees and was supplying city of Varaždin with fresh milk in glass bottles. The name “Vindija” derives from the local cave Vindija, well known archeological site in Croatia .

Vindija today , with more than 4000 employees and 1.000 different products of 10 brands, is the number one food industry in Croatia .

It is formed of 9 companies (6 of them are production companies) and it is working in compliance with high quality standards such are: ISO 9001:2000, IFS, BRC, HALAL, HACCP and SSOP

Vindija is also very strong on the export market, exporting to West European markets, region and USA.

VINDIJA & ECOLOGY

Environmental protection has always been one of the principal concerns of all members of the Vindija group.

 Control of production, products, raw materials, energy plants, water and waste water is performed through state of the art automatic devices and environmentally friendly methods.

  Energy plants use energy in the following order of quantity:

• Electric energy

• Gas

In cooling plants, no gasses which damage the ozone layer are used, instead we use NH3 with indirect media:

• ice water

• Ethylene glycol for air conditioning.

There is a special method of disposal for every group of raw materials, for example:

• Paper is gathered and sent for recycling each day;

• Foil and objects made of artificial compounds are separated and pressed.

 

Since Government's Ordinance on Packing came into power, Vindija is performing activities related to its commitment towards a governmental body that takes care of packing waste in the Republic of Croatia.

Emissions which are generated during the production process have no important influence on the soil. Individual measurements are regularly performed in order to check emissions of air pollutants.

An operative intervention plan for protection of the environment was made in accordance with provisions of the Act on Environmental Protection.

Activities are also being performed in order to adjust to regulations with the purpose of harmonizing with the EU laws.
