Insurance RI Insurance
Every Rotarian & volunteer
has insurance cover
… provides a safety net
BUT:
Insurance is not a licence
for unsafe activities
… H&S rules never to be used to restrict or cancel events
… Provisions & limitations detailed in RIBI Insurance Policy
Disclosures (Criminal Records Checks) Under:
- Part 5 of the Police Act 1997
- Criminal Justice and Court Services Act 2000
- Home Office document “Safe From Harm”
- The Protection of Freedoms Bill - Part 5
The work / task has to be carried out at a ‘specified
establishment’, e.g. Schools, Hospitals, etc.
- ‘regularly’ (once a week or more); or
- on four days or more in a single month; or
- overnight between the hours of 0200 and 0600
So, may eliminate need for CRB checks in Rotary
- except possibly Home Hosting for Under 18s…

District & Club Protection Policy – reviewed annually
District & Club Protection Officers – training & reporting
Code of Behaviour - Working with children / situations to Avoid
- Unacceptable Behaviour / Signs of Bullying
- Working with people needing Special Care
- Working with children who have Special Needs
When Planning an Event - Prepare / Consult / Involve / Permission / Check
- Try to ‘plan out’ the need for Criminal Records Checks

H&S Club Actions / Responsibilities
1. President signs RIBI Health & Safety Policy - Shared with Council / Lodged with Club Secretary
- Advise Club Committee Chairs accordingly
2. Refer to RIBI Insurance & Protection guidance
3. Appoint H&S and Club Protection Officers
4. Ensure Risk Assessment is undertaken for every
Club event, AND - make sure the events are recorded in Club Council Minutes or Club records
5. Club H & S Officers / Advisers co-ordinate risk
assessments relating to all Club activities/projects
6. Guidance on H&S and Protection issues can be
obtained / downloaded from the District & RIBI Website
