…Race

Everyone witnesses racism at some point in their lives.

Women of race witness it everyday, everywhere.

Discrimination is huge in the USA today, it is everywhere.

I think that people are becoming more and more open to different races everyday, but there is still many people today who are racists.

Women of color have a different stereotype about the way they look, and they get harassed when they don’t have the same qualities of white women.

Physically Perfect More than 20 million women in this country walk with

a limp in a wheel chair, or with crutches.

Many also have impaired vision, hearing, and speech.

Many have scars that they try to cover up because they do not fit the definition of what women should look like.

Many women try to stay invisible if they have any impairment because they feel bad about themselves, and think that people will think they are ugly.

Many people look down on these women who are in a wheelchair, or cannot speak properly, and think that they are stupid because they can’t move or talk as quickly as they can.

Weight and Size

Women are always trying to be skinnier.

They want that “perfect look”

They want a small waist, big breasts, and tone but thin legs and stomach.

People judge everyday, even if someone is a little bit heavier then they look down on them, and think that they are overweight.

They exercise try diets just so that they don’t get judged by others.

They think too much about what they look like, and are very self conscious.

Aging and Body Image

As women get older our bodies change a lot, and older women become more discriminated against.

Employers may look down on you and not hire you because of your age, and how you look.

“More than 20 Million women in this country walk with a limp; move in a wheelchair or with crutches; have impaired sight, speech, or hearing; live with a chronic illness; have lost a limb to fire, accident, or disease; need special assistance with simple bodily functions; or wear scars from some damaging event.”

This quote from the text is on page 37. This quote shocked me because I never thought about all of those disablilites and never focused it just on women.

20 million people is a lot of people, and it is sad to know just how many women are affected by any of them.

Women need to feel stronger in their own skin.

We need to stick up for ourselves whenever needed.

Most importantly we need to be ourselves, and be proud of who we are.

How do you think media could play a role in making women

feel comfortable with who they are, and what the look like?
