1
F. Functional Health Pattern 1. HEALTH PERCEPTION AND HEALTH MANAGEMENT PATTERN The client states that she feels dizzy, weak, and exhausted even though she has slept well. She frequently has a headache due to stress. She states that she also had a cold two weeks ago. The client believes that increasing her intake of water, avoiding the consumption of soft drinks, and maintaining a balanced diet can make a difference to her health which is why she does these in belief that these will help keep her body healthy. She does not smoke and use drugs and she has not yet performed self-breast examination. The client does not have any difficulty in following the doctors/nurses’ suggestions. She does not have any traditional concepts of health and illness nor does she have any cultural beliefs and practices related to this. The client worries about her lack of energy and chest pains when it comes to physical activities so she now seeks for medical help. Interpretation: Because of the client feeling exhausted, she is unable to accomplish daily activities due to the lack of energy needed even though she gets enough sleep. Her frequent headaches due to stress disrupts her concentration. Analysis: Illness that causes pain or physical distress can result in sleep problems. People who are ill require more sleep than normal, and the normal rhythm of sleep and wakefulness is often disturbed. People deprived of REM sleep subsequently spend more sleep time in this normal stage. (Fundamentals of Nursing by Kozier, 7 th edition page 1117.)
