pound300000 Momentum Funding call opens for companies withinnovative healthcare solutions

Health Innovation Manchester is urging businesses with innovative healthcare products or services toapply for a share of pound300000 through the Momentum Fund
The fund has been established to support the introduction and adoption of needs-led evidence-basedinnovations into the healthcare system within Greater Manchester
This year the fund is looking at innovations focussed on two themes
Urgent and Emergency Care Cardiovascular disease diabetes nutrition or obesity (Cardiometabolic needs)
All applications must include evidenced involvement from an NHS or Social Care Organisation within theHealth Innovation Manchester footprint which encompasses Greater Manchester and EastCheshire Applicants may apply for funding between pound25000 and pound75000 Projects funded can last up to12 months and will be monitored against agreed milestones and outputs Deadline 12noon 16 October2019

Historically research has not always reflected theneeds of our local population and a new listeningexercise aims to engage with residents carersand those working in mental health to discoverwhat the regionrsquos mental health priorities shouldbe

Introducing the new NIHRApplied ResearchCollaboration for GM
The newly established the National Institute forHealth Research (NIHR) Applied ResearchCollaboration for Greater Manchester (ARC GM)officially launched on 1 October 2019
The NIHR has invested pound135m to establish of 15ARCs across England to develop innovativeresearch projects that will directly improve patientcare and treatment
As part of Health Innovation Manchester theARC GMrsquos research activity will be pivotal infinding new and better ways of preventing illnessand delivering care ensuring that GreaterManchester continues to be at the leading edgeof health innovation care and treatment
Over the next five years the ARC GM will focuson research themes including organising care
about the listening exercise and to take part inthe survey

Sharing learning at the NorthWest COPD Discharge BundleJoint Collaborative
Health Innovation Manchester GreaterManchester and Eastern Cheshire Patient SafetyCollaborative (GMECPSC) and the InnovationAgency held the North West Chronic ObstructivePulmonary Disease (COPD) Discharge BundleCollaborative at the Mecure Haydock Hotel on 27September
It will support the adoption of the COPDDischarge Care Bundle with the aim of improvingcare and reducing readmissions for patientsadmitted with acute COPD exacerbation
The event included patient stories dashboarddata information and a workshop fororganisations to plan their own implementationjourneys

Troponin only ManchesterAcute Coronary Syndromes(T-MACS) Network Event
Health Innovation Manchester hosted a Troponinonly Manchester Acute Coronary Syndromes (T-MACS) Network event in Manchester to updatepartners on the progress of the T-MACSprogramme and share learning from the recentwork that is being done across GreaterManchester
T-MACS is a computerised clinical predictionmodel which calculates each individual patientrsquosprobability of acute coronary syndrome followinga single troponin blood test at the time of arrivalat the emergency department
The event included an update on the progressmade with the T-MACS project and discussionsabout key achievements and challenges as wellas the role of Health Innovation Manchester andthe AHSN Network in improving the spread andadoption of the technology
Patient Safety Collaborativeshare learning with Maternityand Neonatal system
Greater Manchester and Eastern CheshirePatient Safety Collaborative hosted a Maternityand Neonatal Local Learning Set event on 19thSeptember gathering staff and from across thesystem to discuss best practice in how to engagewith families learn from excellence and humanfactors and how to improve overall care
The event included progress reports from thesystem as well as presentations about dataquality skills assessments and Plan Do StudyAct (PDSA) approaches

Successful start-up businesses have now been named as part of the Greater Manchester Future of HealthChallenge launch
The Greater Manchester Future of Health Challenge is an initiative to identify new solutions based ondigital technologies to address some of the most pressing public health problems in the GreaterManchester area It is a collaboration between Up Ventures MediaCityUK Salford Royal NHS FoundationTrust Salford Digital Health Innovation Manchester Novartis Push Doctor Google and Apadmi
Fifteen participants were selected from over 100 applicants who replied to the call for creative use of newtechnologies to solve some of Greater Manchesterrsquos most pressing health problems
This 12-week programme will include training mentoring and support from leaders in the health andtechnology space including Novartis Google and Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust to create newclinical solutions for patients in Greater Manchester and beyond
ORCHA Unlocking the powerof health apps acrossGreaterManchester
With smartphones part of everyday lives HealthInnovation Manchester is encouraging NHSorganisations across the region to improveservices by safely unlocking the potential ofhealth apps by talking with the Organisation forthe Review of Care and Health Apps (ORCHA)
North West based ORCHA is part of the NHSInnovation Accelerator programme and leads theworld in helping health services to safely embedhealth apps into patient pathways Itrsquos reviewedaround 6000 apps to date
Teams across Salford Royal NHS FoundationTrust and Bolton NHS Foundation Trust todaywork with ORCHA with dedicated libraries oftested and approved apps that their healthprofessionals can search and prescribe topatients Teams are using apps in a wide rangeof services from occupational health and physioto community nursing and psychology services

Safe Steps one of the companies taking part inthe Greater Manchester Digital HealthAccelerator with Health Innovation Manchester isa digital falls risk assessment tool designed toreduce the number of falls in care homes
Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS FTis taking part in a 12-month pilot working withHealth Innovation Manchester and app SafeSteps with a view to the app being rolled out tohospitals across Greater Manchester
As part of the pilot all patients admitted to theStamford Unit at Tameside Hospital has a riskassessment on the Safe Steps app that thendevises a care plan individualised for the patientThe care plan gives the clinical team actions andthe app keeps track of what actions areoutstanding for that patient which also assiststhe clinical team

Pioneering data research centres to enable cutting-edge researchand innovation to benefit UK patients
Seven new data hubs to be rolled out across the UK to speed up research for new medicines treatmentsand technologies that support quicker diagnoses and save lives
Led by Health Data Research UK these hubs aim to improve the lives of people with debilitatingconditions and will link up different types of health data and make it more easily accessible and user-friendly for research while maintaining strict controls around data privacy and consent
The Health Data Research Hubs are part of a four-year pound37million investment from the UK GovernmentIndustrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF) announced in November 2017 led by UK Research andInnovation to create a UK-wide system for the safe and responsible use of health-related data on a largescale The hubs will also stimulate further economic growth through greater research activity

(PTF) to help NHS organisations integrate therapid uptake products into everyday practicesDelivered with the support of the AcademicHealth Science Networks (AHSNs) the PTFseeks to improve equality of access to theseproducts
The PTF can help providers overcome practicalobstacles to deploying these products After thesuccess of Phase 1 applications Phase 2 is nowopen for applications It will close midnight on 31October 2019
This will focus on five of the AAC rapid uptakeproducts UroLift placental growth factor-basedtesting high-sensitivity troponin testing in anunder 3-hour protocol HeartFlow and PCSK9inhibitors

(PTF) to help NHS organisations integrate therapid uptake products into everyday practicesDelivered with the support of the AcademicHealth Science Networks (AHSNs) the PTFseeks to improve equality of access to theseproducts
The PTF can help providers overcome practicalobstacles to deploying these products After thesuccess of Phase 1 applications Phase 2 is nowopen for applications It will close midnight on 31October 2019
This will focus on five of the AAC rapid uptakeproducts UroLift placental growth factor-basedtesting high-sensitivity troponin testing in anunder 3-hour protocol HeartFlow and PCSK9inhibitors

Pioneering data research centres to enable cutting-edge researchand innovation to benefit UK patients
Seven new data hubs to be rolled out across the UK to speed up research for new medicines treatmentsand technologies that support quicker diagnoses and save lives
Led by Health Data Research UK these hubs aim to improve the lives of people with debilitatingconditions and will link up different types of health data and make it more easily accessible and user-friendly for research while maintaining strict controls around data privacy and consent
The Health Data Research Hubs are part of a four-year pound37million investment from the UK GovernmentIndustrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF) announced in November 2017 led by UK Research andInnovation to create a UK-wide system for the safe and responsible use of health-related data on a largescale The hubs will also stimulate further economic growth through greater research activity
