Laminex® Partitioning Systems Cost-effective, long lasting and easy to install, Laminex® Partitioning Systems can be used for almost any dry or wet area application. A range of toilet and shower systems cover a range of applications, as well as integrated seating and locker systems for a complete solution. The Lyell McEwin Hospital (LMH) is located in the northern suburbs of Adelaide and is currently undergoing a transformation as part of South Australia’s Health Care Plan 2007 - 2016 (SAHCP).
Part of this transformation has included the development of a new Children and Adolescents Ward to meet the requirements of this busy facility in Adelaide’s growing northern suburbs.South Australian architectural practice, Cheesman Architects, worked with Laminex Australia to deliver a durable, easy to clean and welcoming environment in the 1000sqm ward.
Cheesman Architects Associate Senior Interior Designer, Liliana Ramirez, said it was important for the firm to deliver an exceptional environment that would withstand high traffic and last year after year, but still provide patients with a pleasant space.
“Our vision was to move away from the ‘sterile’, clinical feel usually associated with medical spaces, but still use hard-wearing, attractive products that can stand the harsh chemicals and high foot traffic that's part of the day-to-day life of a hospital."
To achieve its design vision, Cheesman Architects opted for a range of Laminex and Formica products, including the strong, yet stylish Laminex Compact Laminate range, Laminex Timber Veneers and Laminex Colour Palette.
"Laminex Multipurpose Compact Laminate was a must for this project. We can chose the range because of its chemical and stain resistance. It's easy to clean and durable enough to withstand substantial traffic areas."
Laminex Multipurpose Compact Laminate Platinum Micro and Laminex New Graphite have been used as toilet and shower partitions.
Cheesman Architect relied on the Riven finish in the Laminex Impressions textured surfaces range to create bespoke organic motifs on the walls of some wards. Resembling trees, the motifs are made from Laminex Oyster Linea and have been teamed with Laminex Juicy. Laminex Juicy and Laminex Olympia Yellow have been used as bedhead panels across the ward. Laminex White is used extensively, from the reception area to meeting, staff and assessment rooms.
To achieve a look that is 'not too clinical' the playful print of Laminex Fusion Design Source Garden Party was used to liven up a treatment room.
Laminex Espresso Ligna, Laminex Stone Beige, Laminex New Ash Dust, Formica Deep Anthracite, Formica Velveteen were all used in waiting rooms, corridors and the staff room.
