HEADS MESSAGE Summer Fair Don’t forget that our annual Summer Fair takes place at our Swallows campus tomorrow between 12 noon and 2pm. The weather looks great so do pop along for great fun and food! Summer Ball Led brilliantly by Mrs Markham, the team arranging our Summer Ball (2nd July) will be present at the summer Ball just in case you haven’t yet bought your tickets and would still like to attend. Confide Recte Agens Our school motto, encouraging us all to make sound life choices and stand up for what is right and good in the world seems especially pertinent this week. At school we are constantly reinforcing with children the need to take responsibility for our thoughts and ac-tions and to consider the impact of our deeds on oth-ers. The ability to think for ourselves, the self-confidence to stand apart from the crowd, to cele-brate diversity, to ask questions when we don’t under-stand rather than be fearful of difference are all char-acter traits that we promote and thankfully witness in the children of KHPS every day. Our thoughts this week go to the families and friends of Jo Cox MP and to those who lost their lives in Orlan-do. Kind regards,
Mrs G Bowser Headteacher
Friday 17th June 2016 The Newsletter of King Henry VIII Preparatory School Academic Year 2015-2016 Issue 31
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK "Jo believed in a better world and she fought for it everyday of her life with an energy, and a zest for life that would exhaust most people. She would have wanted two things above all else to happen now, one that our precious children are bathed in love and two, that we all unite to fight against the hatred that killed her." Brendan Cox – husband of Jo Cox MP who was sadly killed yesterday.
WORD OF THE WEEK Our word of the week is ‘peace’. Word class: noun Definition: tranquility; calm; freedom from disturbance; a state or period of time in which there is no war or war has ended. This week’s word is not so tricky so say, spell or place in a sentence. It seems far more difficult to achieve however.

COVENTRY PRIMARY SCHOOLS UNDER 11 7-A-SIDE FOOTBALL FINALS (DAVID MOORE TROPHY) SATURDAY 11TH JUNE On Saturday we played against the four other best schools in Coventry, having qualified from knock-out rounds. Squad; Rory, Ben, Rupert, Michael, George, Charlie, Adam, Kush, Jack. Results: KHPS v Christ The King 0-0 DRAW KHPS v Finham 0-0 DRAW KHPS v Manor Park 0-1 LOST KHPS v Stivichall 0-1 LOST All the opposition teams were of an excellent standard and each match was played at a ferocious pace. We played superbly in every match but luck was not on our side. The boys gave 100% and played with pride, pas-sion and skill. They also competed with aggression and showed terrific team-work. Well done boys, we are all very proud of you!
Mr. Beaufoy, Mr. Hall, Mr. Langkilde & Mr. Savage.

Children who have been in a cross-country or swimming team will need clean, smart PE kit for their photo-graphs. There will also be photograph of all members of King Hal’s and a musicians’ photograph. Anyone who has played in a school group at either the Carol Service or the Spring Concert should bring in their instrument for the photograph.

YEAR 4 TRIP TO KENILWORTH CASTLE
Year 4 enjoyed a cool blustery day at Kenilworth Cas-
tle this year. However, the trip was a huge success,
with the children being able to confidently use their
knowledge of Norman Castles to impress our tour
guide. Highlights included a royal procession in the
Great Hall, recalling Queen Elizabeth’s visit, lunch on
the ruins of the old chapel and sword fighting on the
back lawn – now a Year 4 tradition!
YEAR 6 DRAMA WEEK 2016—’BEAUTY AND THE BEAST’ Year 6 have been working very hard this week, putting together their long-awaited production of 'Beauty and the Beast'. Over the course of the week, they have experienced the wonderful opportunity of working with a visiting costumier for the stage and screen. On Monday, pupils were treated to a presentation by Kate from Angels Costumes, trying on some of their amaz-ing creations and learning some tricks of the trade. All children were then given a tuition session and the chance to work with sewing machines and material to create some of the petals for the character of 'the Rose' in our production. On Tuesday and Wednesday, Year 6 were visited by London-based professional dancer Charlie, who worked with each class to choreograph some of the major num-bers in the show - giving it a real polished and profes-sional edge! Following on from dress and technical re-hearsals on Thursday and Friday, children will be putting the finishing touches to their fabulous show on Monday, when they perform their last rehearsal to the rest of the school. Break a leg! Tickets are now available online to the wider school community. Please do come and support the children and staff of Year 6. They would very much like you to 'Be their guest'! Performances take place at 7pm on Tuesday 21st-Thursday 23rd June.
