All three of Seton Hall’s previous title game appearances resulted in victories (1991, 1993, 2016). This game is a rematch of the 2016 title game, and it is the seventh all-time meeting between the two teams in the tournament. Each team has won three times. Villanova won the latest matchup in the 2017 semifinals. LAST TIME OUT Junior Myles Powell scored 22 points and issued seven assists, and junior Quincy McKnight posted 18 points and four assists, as Seton Hall overcame significant foul trouble to knock off No. 23 Marquette, 81-79, in the BIG EAST Tournament semifinals Friday night at Madison Square Garden. Marquette led for the entire first half, and took a 60-54 lead with 10:05 remaining in the game. The Golden Eagles proceeded to go 0-for-7 in field goal attempts until Sam Hauser connected with 2:40 to go. In that span, the Pirates went on a 20-7 run with Powell hitting a three with 6:37 to go to put the Pirates on top, and McKnight punctuating the run with a floater in the lane with 2:49 to go, making it 74-67. However, Marquette did not go away, again getting free throws to get back into it. It came down to the very end with the Pirates clinging to a two-point lead, 81-79, and Markus Howard missing the game-winning three-point attempt at the buzzer. ALL-TIME VS. VILLANOVA Seton Hall has played Villanova more than any school in program history. Saturday marks the 118th all-time meeting. Each team won on its respective home court this season, with the Pirates most recently coming away with a 79-75 win on Senior Day at Prudential Center on March 9. Since the reconfiguration of the BIG EAST, Seton Hall has the most wins over Villanova of any team in the conference (four). 20-WIN HISTORY Last night’s win over Marquette secured Seton Hall’s 20th win of the season, setting a new school record. The Hall now has four consecutive 20-win seasons, a program first. Only twice before had the Pirates even had three straight 20-win seasons (1951-53 and 1991- 93). Take a bow, Kevin Willard. POLISHED RESUME Thanks to an aggressive non-conference schedule and some gritty play from a young squad, the Pirates have developed a polished NCAA Tournament resume that will resonate with the selection committee. They have five wins over NET Top 30 teams, seven “Quadrant 1” wins and a combined 14 “Quadrant 1 +2” wins. The Pirates are 4-2 against Associated Press nationally ranked teams, 5-2 overall when factoring in USA Today Coaches poll ranked teams. GARDEN MAGIC Madison Square Garden is a home away from home for Seton Hall, which annually has student-athletes from the Metro New York area on its roster. Since March 2014, the Pirates are 13-6 at the World’s Most Famous Arena, including a 7-1 record against nationally ranked teams and a 2016 BIG EAST Tournament championship. ALL HAIL POWELL Myles Powell continues to make a case for All- America status. After his scorching 29-point first half against Georgetown that set a new BIG EAST Tournament record, he then delivered 22 hard-earned points plus seven assists in a comeback win over No. 23 Marquette. He is now averaging 22.9 points a game which ranks him in the top 15 in the nation, fourth among players in “Basketball Six” conferences. He also is top-50 in free throw shooting, three-pointers made and steals. He has eight 30-point games this season and 21 20-point games. No. Name Pos. Cl. Ht. Wt. >> MEDIA INFORMATION

INSIDE THE HALL PIRATE POINTSSeton Hall Standard » Kevin Willard has now led the Pirates to four

consecutive 20-win seasons, a program record. » His five 20-win seasons overall are tied for the

most in Seton Hall history with P.J. Carlesimo and Honey Russell, who also have five.

» Only twice before in program history had Seton Hall recorded three consecutive 20-win seasons: 1951-53 under Russell, and 1991-93 under Carlesimo.

» After finishing 9-9 in the conference this season, Seton Hall now has four consecutive years of a .500 or better league record, which is a program record.

» The Pirates are seeking a trip to the NCAA Tournament for a fourth straight year, a feat the school has accomplished only one other time - 1991-94.

Scheduling For March » With many new faces on the 2018-19 roster,

Kevin Willard wanted to challenge his team with a demanding and strenuous non-conference schedule. At the conclusion of the non-league slate, Seton Hall went 9-3, which included winning the Wooden Legacy Tournament championship, a neutral site win over No. 9 Kentucky and a road triumph at Maryland.

» When you include the BIG EAST schedule, the Pirates are playing 26 of their 33 games against teams that are currently in the KenPom top 100.

Seton Hall Stacks Up » The Pirates have piled up 16 wins against teams

currently in the KenPom top 100 (as of 3/16), which is tied with tonight’s opponent Villanova for the most among BIG EAST teams:

» Seton Hall – 16 » Villanova - 16 » Marquette – 15 » Georgetown – 10 » St. John’s – 10 » Xavier – 10 » Creighton – 9 » Providence – 9 » Butler – 8 » DePaul – 8

Beasts Of The BIG EAST » Including this year, the last four seasons in the

BIG EAST have been some of the best in school history, and Seton Hall ranks high among the 10 league members in that span. Since the start of the 2016 conference season and including conference tournament games, Seton Hall has the third-most wins among the 10 schools:

» Villanova - 68 (2015, ’17 & ’18 champs) » Xavier - 52 » Seton Hall - 47 (2016 champs) » Marquette - 42 » Providence - 41 (2014 champs) » Creighton - 40 » Butler - 39 » Georgetown - 27 » St. John’s - 23 » DePaul - 16

The Closer The Better » The Pirates have kept fans on the edge of their

seats all season, with seemingly every game coming down to the wire. In fact, during regular-season BIG EAST play alone, Seton Hall had seven games decided by one possession (three points or fewer) or in overtime. Only two other times in program history had the Pirates had as many one possession or overtime conference games - 1991-92 and 2016-17.

Another Winning Season » Seton Hall’s victory over Marquette on March 6

secured an overall winning season record for a fifth consecutive year. Only one other time in the program’s BIG EAST era (1979-present) have the Pirates had five straight winning seasons. That came from 1991-95. The overall program record is 14 consecutive winning seasons from 1908-23 (no team in 1918-19).

Finish Strong » Seton Hall is 82-11 (.882) in its last 93 games

(dating back to the start of the 2015-16 season) when holding a lead of seven or more at any point in the contest.

Powered By Powell » Seton Hall is at its best when Myles Powell

dominates the game. The Pirates are 11-2 this season when he scores at least 25 points.

70 Is The Goal » On offense, Seton Hall needs to score 70 points

to be successful this season. The Pirates are 17-4 (.810) when they score at least 70 points, 3-8 (.273) when they don’t.

Resume Booster » Seton Hall’s win at Maryland is one of only 26

victories for Power Six Basketball teams in true road games against other Power Six Basketball foes during non-conference play this season. Among the BIG EAST, there were only five such victories:

» Georgetown at Illinois (Nov. 13) » St. John’s at Rutgers (Nov. 16) » Providence at Boston College (Dec. 4) » Providence at Texas (Dec. 21) » Seton Hall at Maryland (Dec. 22)

A Resilient Bunch » Seton Hall has won seven games this season

after trailing at the break, and have won 12 games after trailing by five or more at any point in the contest. The Pirates trailed St. John’s by 14, and Xavier by 10 earlier in the year before mounting comeback wins. On Feb. 9, the Pirates trailed Creighton by six with 3:42 remaining in the game, but used an 11-2 run to close the contest and seal the win. On Feb. 17 at Creighton, Seton Hall trailed by six with just over four minutes left in the game, but closed it out on a 14-2 run. In one of the most impressive comebacks in recent memory, Seton Hall overcame a 13-point deficit with under 10 minutes remaining against No. 16 Marquette on March 6, finishing the game on an 18-0 run.

Raining Threes » Junior Myles Powell has moved into fourth all-

time at Seton Hall in three-pointers made with 261. This is in only 99 career games. If he keeps this pace up, he will be within striking distance of the all-time Pirates record, which is held by Jeremy Hazell, who made 328 triples from 2007-11. He has connected on a three in 55 of his last 56 games, and in 92 of his 99 career appearances.

Cale From DEEP » Cale has also made three or more three-

pointers in 10 games this season, and is shooting a team-best 38.9 percent from long range.

» The Delaware native erupted from beyond the arc in last Saturday’s win over Villanova, shooting 6-for-8 (75.0 percent).

Leaping Up The Leaderboard » Myles Powell is making strides on the all-time

scoring leaderboard at The Hall. In fact, he has climbed up 41 spots on the leaderboard to number 16. Powell reached the career 1,000-point milestone against Hawaii, and now has 1,611 career points. He is one of 21 players in program history to reach the 1,500-point threshold.

Historic 700 » Against Georgetown on Thursday night, Myles

Powell became just the sixth player all-time to score at least 700 points in a season for The Hall. Overall, when including the same student-athlete reaching the milestone multiple times, it’s only been accomplished seven times. To put it in perspective, only 79 Pirates have EVER scored 700 points in their CAREER.

» Graduates in the Pros » All four of Seton Hall’s 2018 graduates are now

playing professional basketball. Angel Delgado signed a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Clippers. 32018-19 GAME NOTES #HALLin @SETONHALLMBB

PIRATE POINTS » In early February, Angel Delgado was called up

to the Los Angeles Clippers, and earned his first-career NBA minutes and first NBA points. He had three points, four rebounds and a steal in 13 minutes against the Pacers on Feb. 7.

Own The Paint » Seton Hall is 12-3 this season when it out-

rebounds opponents. » The Pirates have out-scored opponents in the

paint by an average of 34.4-27.6 this season. » The Pirates have shown the ability to dominate

the glass on both ends, and have recorded 17 or more offensive rebounds in four of the last six games.

Defense, Defense, Defense » The Pirates have been consistent defensively all

season, and have allowed just two teams (Miami & DePaul) to shoot 50.0 percent or better.

» Furthermore, just four teams (St. Louis, DePaul, Villanova & Butler) have shot 40.0 percent or better from three-point range.

» Seton Hall has the second-best three-point percentage defense in the conference (33.5)

» The Pirates are also tied for third in the BIG EAST in blocked shots per game (3.9), led by Romaro Gill and Sandro Mamukelashvili, who are third and fifth in the league, respectively with 1.3 blocks per game.

Magnificent Mamu » Sophomore Sandro Mamukelashvili has been a

force down low for the Pirates all year, and had a monster 12 points and career-high 18 rebounds in last Saturday’s win over Villanova.

» Mamukelashvili has four double-doubles this season, and is third in the BIG EAST with 7.6 rebounds per game.

Winning With Nzei » As his career winds down, senior Michael Nzei

continues to move up the charts in Seton Hall history. He has cracked the program’s top 100 all-time scorers and currently stands tied for 82nd at 688 points. More importantly, Nzei has been a winner his whole career, and the 88 wins Seton Hall has while he’s been on the roster ranks him tied for third all-time in program history. The record is held by Arturas Karnisovas and Bryan Caver, who won 93 games at Seton Hall from 1991-94.

1. Arturas Karnisovas (1991-94) 93 Bryan Caver (1991-94) 933. Terry Dehere (1989-93) 88 Michael Nzei (2015-present) 88 5. Chris Davis (1990-91, 92-95) 86

A Glimpse At The Future » Seton Hall secured two commitments for the

2019-20 season as Tyrese Samuel and Dashawn Davis have signed National Letters of intent to join the Seton Hall family, Willard announced. Samuel is a 6-8 forward from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and is currently attending Orangeville Prep in Ontario. He is a top-100 and consensus four-star recruit and previously attended Wasatch Academy in Utah and Riverdale Baptist in Maryland. At Wasatch in 2017-18, he averaged 12.0 points and 5.0 rebounds for a Tigers squad that went 17-2. Davis is a 6-3 guard hailing from Bronx, N.Y., and he is currently playing his high school ball at Our Saviour Lutheran, also in the Bronx, the same school that produced current Pirates freshman Jared Rhoden. As a junior at Our Saviour Lutheran, Davis showed tremendous scoring prowess, averaging 18.5 points for a powerful Falcons squad that won 31 games.

Neutral Court No Problem » The Pirates are a perfect 6-0 on neutral courts

this season including two wins in the last two days at The Garden, and a win over then-ranked No. 9 Kentucky (84-83 OT) at The Garden on Dec. 8. The other three wins were over Grand Canyon, Hawaii and Miami at Titan Gym on the campus of Cal State Fullerton in the Wooden Legacy Tournament in November.

McKnight Plays Stellar Defense » Junior Quincy McKnight has proven his ability to

lock down opposing teams and their best scorers all season.

» Specifically, McKnight has gotten the best of the BIG EAST leading scorer and Player of the Year, Markus Howard. In three games against the Golden Eagles, McKnight limited Howard to just 10-for-46 (21.7 percent) from the field.

» McKnight is fourth in the BIG EAST with 1.7 steals per game.

Going for NCAA History » Senior Michael Nzei is vying to become only the

third Pirate student-athlete in school history to appear in an NCAA Tournament game in four consecutive years. The only two Seton Hallers to do it are Bryan Caver and Arturas Karnisovas, who played in four straight from 1991-94.
