have about 7000 different ingredients

that they are allowed to use in skin

care products, with around 1000 known

to be harmful and another 900 known

to cause cancer.

Cosmetics and personal care products are

promoted based on the quality and

ingredients of their formulas. Numerous

products allege to be filled with expensive

vitamins, oils, and perfumes. Others profess

to use an all-natural formula.

OFFENDERS IN COSMETIC PRODUCTS

1. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)/Sodium Laureth

Sulfate (SLES)

These are used as detergents and surfactants are

found in soaps at car washes, cleaners for your

garage floors and engine degreasers.

Both SLS and SLES are utilized more extensively as

one of the major ingredients in cosmetics, toothpaste,

hair conditioners and about 90% of all shampoos and

products that produce foams.

2. Mineral Oil

Mineral oil is a frequent ingredient in

commercial lotions, creams and baby

care products.

It is manufactured as a byproduct of

the distillation of gasoline from crude

oil. Mineral oil is the surplus liquid

and is a very abundant product.

Mineral oil is alien to the human body and

has numerous detrimental effects. It is the

chief component in numerous baby care items

such as baby oil, baby lotions, and baby wash

liquid soap.

It is a petroleum by-product that covers the

skin just like wrapping it in plastic wrap. It

clogs the pores, hindering the skin’s ability to

eliminate toxins, promoting skin disorders and

decelerates skin function and cell development

resulting in the premature aging of your skin.

3. SYNTHETIC FRAGRANCE Fragrances that are synthetic and are utilized in

personal care products can have as many as 200

ingredients. 

Few of maladies cause by these chemicals are:

• headaches,

• allergies,

• dizziness,

• rash,

• coughing, skin irritation and hyperpigmentation

What does your body do when you give

it the synthetic chemical fragrances?

It responds with problems like:

• asthma,

• migraines,

• hyperactivity disorder,

• Rashes.

4. ANTIBACTERIALS

Antibacterials (e.g., Triclosan) are found in many

products, such as hand soaps, deodorants,

toothpastes and body washes.

Health Hazards: Some antibacterial agents are

absorbed through the skin. Triclosan has been

shown to be secreted in breast milk. These chemicals

may be toxic or carcinogenic.

5. BUTYL ACETATE

found in nail strengtheners and nail polishes.

Health Hazards: Butyl acetate vapors may

cause dizziness or drowsiness. Continued use

of a product containing butyl acetate may

cause skin to crack and become dry

6. BUTYLATED HYDROXYTOLUENE

It is an antioxidant which helps slow the rate

at which a product changes color over time.

Health Hazards: Butylated hydroxytoluene

may cause skin and eye irritation.
