I Utilizes high tech motion-stabilized night visionequipment to enhance whalelookout and avoidance.

I Designed vesselwith no propellersthat is far moremaneuverable andable to stop faster

than large vessels currentlyoperating in Hawaiian waters.

I Committed to remaining500 meters away from whales –five times farther than whatFederal law requires inHawaiian waters.

I Worked for more than a yearwith HDOA Plant QuarantineBranch to develop proceduresand policies more stringent thanstate regulations.

I Developed measures toprevent spread of invasivespecies in consultation withinvasive species committees and

other experts from state andfederal agencies.

I Implemented the state’s mostthorough standard of 100%screening of cars to betransported.

I Is the only company in thetransportation industry thatconducts agricultural screening

of every interisland passenger.

I Opens vehicles’ hood, trunkand back cargo area, and looksinto the wheel wells, under the

bumpers, and in compartments.(Other carriers do not screen atall or do only a “paperscreening.”)

I Established policy prohibitingtransport of muddy vehicles, orthose with caked dirt.

I Incorporated the invasivespecies program in the PUC-approved tariff.

I Used special non-toxic siliconeship paint to prevent aquatichitchhikers.

Does not use ballast tanks ordischarge water.

I Committed to conduct riskassessment after service hascommenced.

TRAFFIC

I Completed traffic studies

and implemented a vehiclemovement and managementplan.

I Revised arrival and departureschedules to avoid the busiesttraffic times and minimizeimpacts.

I Designed facilities to hold all

arriving and departing vehicleswithin terminal and not onroadways.

I Allows vehicles to enterterminal up to two hours priorto departure to reduce trafficimpacts.

I Employs trained staff to

manage traffic entering andexiting each facility, ensuringtraffic on adjacent streets is notrestricted or impeded.

I Committed to commencingoperations with off-duty policeofficers hired to direct trafficand respond to any unforeseenproblems.
