Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner offereda reminder to a district resident who ques-tioned the current political climate.
“Elections have consequences,”Sensenbrenner said during a “town hall”meeting at West Bend City Hall March29.
Sensenbrenner was responding to acomment from a West Bend resident whosaid she was “disgusted with everythingthat was going on in Washington. I don’tknow how we got in such a bad place.”
Sensenbrenner said that “as far as thepresident is concerned, both JohnMcCain and Mitt Romney said what thispresident was going to do, and the presi-dent got elected by comfortable margins, although not landslides, in 2008 and2012.”
He added the fact that Republicansgained control of the House ofRepresentatives in 2010 and the Senatelast fall “show that the voters wanted tohave a check put on this president by giv-ing a majority to the opposition party inboth houses of Congress.”
Sensenbrenner said that framers ofthe United States Constitution placedchecks and balances to slow the legisla-tive process down to make sure not

By Craig W. ArmstrongThe weather is warmer and it’s time to
see how your vehicle survived the winter.Spring is a great time to make thoserepairs, check those fluid levels and seehow the winter has treated your tires. Yourtires are something you can check andmaintain, even if you aren’t mechanicallyinclined.
The first thing to do is check the pres-sure. You should do this every couple ofweeks and before road trips. If you don’tcheck your tire pressure on a regular basis, spring is a good time to start.
First, you need to determine the recom-mended PSI (pounds per square inch) for
the tire. This can be found on the tire or inthe owner’s manual. To check the pressure, you will need a tire gauge. Most pressuregauges you can buy today are digital andeasy to read. Unscrew the cap on the tirestem and put on the pressure gauge. If itreads “35 psi,” that means the tire requires35 pounds of pressure per square inch.
If air is needed to reach the recom-mend PSI, add air to the tire until youreach that numberBUT DON’T OVERINFLATE IT. Under inflated tires havegreater friction with the road, which caus-es your vehicle to work harder. A vehiclethat works harder uses more gas and costsmore money.
Next, check your tires for wear; a worntire is smooth. Hopefully, your tires are notcompletely bald. But, if they do still havesome tread, is it enough? A way to checkwear is to reach into your pocket, take outa penny and place it into the tire’s groove, with Lincoln’s head upside down and fac-ing toward you. If you can see the top of“honest Abe’s” head, it’s time to go shop-ping for new tires.
The way you drive affects your tires. Toensure they last as long as possible, keepthese things in mind. Driving at highspeeds generates heat and will reduce thelife of the tread. It’s also important to con-sider what you encounter on the road.
Avoid going over potholes and hittingcurbs when you turn. Also keep an eye outfor road kill. They may already be flat-tened, but don’t run over those unfortunatecritters.
Another way to extend the life of yourtires is to rotate them. By rotating your tires, you allow them to wear more evenly. Agood rule of thumb is to have them rotatedevery 6,000 to 8,000 miles.
Spring means the flowers are bloomingand the weather is warmer. Take the timeto make sure your vehicle is operating at itspeak. By taking care of your tires, you canmake sure it runs its best from the groundup.

(NAPSI)—While most motorists are fondof what’s known as that “new car smell,”there are some other specific odors thatmotorists should also be aware of.
Identifying these suspect smells early oncan help car owners be car care awareand avoid the hassle and expense of anunexpected breakdown.
The Car Care Council recommends asniff test of your vehicle to identify anyunusual smells, including the following sixwarning signs:
1. The smell of burnt rubber could beslipping drive belts or misplaced loosehoses that might be rubbing against rotat-ing accessory drive pulleys. Do not reach inif the engine compartment is hot.
2. The smell of hot oil could mean thatoil is leaking onto the exhaust system. Toverify the leak, look for oil on the pavementor smoke coming from the engine area.
3. The smell of gasoline is likely the signof a gas leak in some area of the vehiclesuch as a fuel injector line or the fuel tank.
Any smell of fuel can result in a possible firehazard, so immediate attention should begiven.
4. The sweet smell of syrup may be asign that your car is leaking engine coolantfrom a leaky component related to the car’scooling system. Do not open the radiatorcap when it is hot.
5. The smell of burning carpet could bea sign of brake trouble and a safety hazard.Have your brakes checked right away, especially if this smell is happening during
normal driving conditions.6. If the smell of rotten eggs is coming
from your vehicle, it could mean a problemwith your catalytic converter or a poorlyrunning engine causing the catalytic con-verter to become overloaded and fail dueto meltdown.
“When you smell any peculiar odor, you should not ignore it. Instead, bring yourvehicle to a professional service technician

(NAPSI)Longing for the days when youfelt good about driving your car, truck orSUV?
With the average new-car price over$30,000, there are many reasons to hangon to the one you have. But maybe the oneyou have seems a bit too tired to keep.
What your car needs is a makeover.A little nip-tuck, new shoes and a few
shiny accessories can make your vehicleexciting again without breaking the bank.
Consumers spend more than $33 bil-lion annually to personalize their vehicles, according to the Specialty EquipmentMarket Association (SEMA), the tradeorganization representing the automotiveaftermarket industry.
“The possibilities are tremendous. You’d be amazed how just a few hundreddollars of accessories can completely
change and enhance a vehicle’s looks orperformance,” said Chris Kersting, SEMApresident and CEO.
Here are a few things for a great vehi-cle makeover:
1) Wheels and Tires: One of the easiestand most cost-effective ways to freshen upthe look and improve the safety, comfortand performance of any vehicle is to getnew “shoes”—a set of custom wheels andspecialty/performance tires.
There are literally thousands of combi-nations to choose from. Start at a local tireshop or specialty wheel store where theycan tell you what fits your vehicle andbudget, present some options and do theinstallation.
2) Mobile Electronics: Another way tomake your vehicle cool and more fun todrive is to install some modern mobile elec-tronics. Today’s selection of car audioequipment, navigation systems, backupcameras and more is broad and can fit arange of budgets. Plus, they can beinstalled on just about any vehicle andinstantly make the drive more convenient.
3) LED Lighting: Once the domain ofclunky and inefficient incandescent bulbs, accessory lighting has moved to LED tech-nology with nearly limitless applications.Fog lights, driving lights, work lights andeven interior lights are now available incompact LED format, which uses less ener-gy, emits less heat and can be many timesbrighter.
4) Running Boards: If you’re feeling likeyour truck or SUV has gotten taller sinceyou’ve owned it, it probably means you’rejust a little less excited about climbing inand out of it. A set of running boards underthe doors can make ingress and egressmore comfortable and elegant. Don’t likethe look? There are running boards thatcan automatically extend and retract for a

clean look and great functionality whenneeded.
5) Bed Organizers: There’s a lot ofspace in a pickup truck bed and not all of itis needed all the time. Bed organizers haveroll-out drawers and load-carrying tops tokeep cargo safe and organized.
6) Suspension Parts: Like anything thathappens gradually, springs and shocksoften wear out almost imperceptibly, allow-ing for less control. A fresh set will get yourride feeling like new and help you drivesafer. If you choose, you can even installupgraded models for better-than-new rideand handling.
7) Engine Performance: There are sev-eral ways to make improvements to yourengine. “Bolt-on” parts let your enginebreathe easier for increased power andefficiency. If you’re really serious, you maywant to consider having a supercharger
installed to increase horsepower significant-ly. There are kits for many popular cars andtrucks, especially V-8s.
8) Restyling: Improving your vehicle’slooks goes beyond custom wheels. Thereare plenty of companies that make cosmet-ic body kits that, when properly installed, can make your vehicle look sportier ormore aggressive.
9) Wraps: If the paint on your car isworn out, consider getting it wrapped.Several companies offer hundreds of colorand pattern options that are a good alter-native to having your car resprayed. Thebest thing is, they’re durable, removableand affordable, so you can change them asoften as you like.
10) Car Care: You’d be amazed at howmuch you can improve and protect theappearance of your vehicle with a good,old-fashioned deep cleaning and polishing.Automotive cleaners, soaps and waxes areavailable for all surfaces and materials and
can be purchased at auto parts storesnationwide.
“It never ceases to amaze me how inno-vative this industry is,” said Kersting. “If youcan think of a product you’d like to have, it’slikely available. Visit your local auto customretailer or go online to find the products youwant. And it it’s not available now, it soonwill be!”

On Saturday, April 25, the Kettle MoraineYMCA is holding a free community event toinspire more kids to keep their minds and bod-ies active. YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day, the Y’snational initiative to improve health and well-being for kids and families, features activitiessuch as games, demonstrations, arts and craftsto motivate and teach families how to developa healthy routine at home.
YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day, celebrated atnearly 1,300 Ys across the country, aims to getmore kids moving and learning, so they cankeep up the habit all summer long – a criticalout-of-school time for kids’ health. When kidsare out of school, they can face hurdles – orgaps – that prevent them from reaching their full
potential, related to hunger, water safety, learn-ing, safe spaces to play, and health. Each year, the Y helps over 9 million youth nationwide“hop the gap” and achieve more, providing asafe to place to learn, stay healthy and buildfriendships.
“The Y is so much more than sports, swim-ming, gymnastics and a place for kids to hangout. We support families in their efforts to instillhealthy habits at home,” said Kirsten Coenen,Membership and Program Operations Director,Kettle Moraine YMCA. “We know that it cansometimes feel like a challenge. So at HealthyKids Day, we’ll encourage kids to stay physi-cally and intellectually active all summer long, and give families tips they can easily replicate
at home. It’s free and open to the community.” In celebration of YMCA’s Healthy Kids
Day, the Y offers the following tips to help fam-ilies develop healthy habits:
•Try, try, repeat – There are many greattasting fruits and vegetables that many kidshave never heard of, let alone tried. Grab anew fruit or vegetable and encourage every-one in the family to try at least a bite.
•Play around town – Challenge the familyto play on a different playground every week.Identify playgrounds at a variety of parks;expand definitions of playgrounds to includenature trails, a nearby stream, and a bike path.
• Families at play for an hour a day – Fromwalking to gardening, or swimming to shooting
hoops, make playful movement a part of yourfamily’s day. To get 60 minutes of moderateactivity throughout your day just add 10 min-utes here and 15 minutes there.
•Foster a passion for reading – Read toand with your kids. Help children read at everyage and every stage of their development.
•Make sleep a priority – Doctors recom-mend 10-12 hours of sleep a day for childrenages 5-12 and 7-8 hours per night for adults.Sleep plays a critical role in maintaining ourhealthy immune system, metabolism, mood, memory, learning, and other vital functions.

branch of government or a single individualgot powerful.
“When there is divided government, you’re going to see a lot of gridlock, because the voters wanted to have theRepublicans be a check on what the presi-dent was doing,” Sensenbrenner said.
In past instances in which presidentsserving their last two years office faced aCongress controlled by the oppositionparty, Sensenbrenner said those presidents— Dwight Eisenhower, George W. Bushand Bill Clinton — moved toward the middleand tried to work with Congress to get itemsapproved.
“President (Barack) Obama has decid-ed to double down, and he really does notrespect the institution of Congress eventhough we were elected by the same peo-ple who elected him,” Sensenbrenner said.
He added that while the process of gov-ernment can be frustrating, “it’s a lot betterthan any alternative we’ve seen on the faceof the earth. Don’t give up on our govern-ment because if you do that you’re givingup on democracy, and your not voting willcreate a vacuum that people who do wantthings out of government will be glad to fillbecause you’re not going to the polls andcompleting the arrow for the candidate youthink represent your viewpoints.”
