My Brother and Sister Elks,
We are now entering our sixth m o n t h o f t h e C O V I D - 1 9 restrictions and the impact on us continues to grow, even though the Lodge still has work to do. I’m sending this letter as an email in August and as my communication in the September Elks Tale. What I have to say and ask is important enough to
do it twice.
We have been fortunate to have a core of volunteers who have worked tirelessly to provide dinner’s “To-Go” on Friday evenings. I think everyone who has sampled them agrees that they were great. The income that has been received from these dinners has allowed us to keep our basic, and needed, business operation running. However, we cannot continue to rely on the same 10-15 volunteers to keep putting out these meals. In fact, as of Friday, September 4th, we are probably going to have to either severely limit or eliminate these dinners. It is unfair to this same small group of Elks to keep this going on a weekly basis.
That is why I am asking our members to step up and assist us in keeping this going. If you have menu or cooking skills, contact the Office. If you are interested in boxing or serving the meals, contact the Office. We can use help in many different ways. We have 972 members, and it’s unfair to have to rely on 15 people to do the same cooking, preparation and serving each week. It would only take 3-5 hours over a 2-3 day period to keep this needed and beneficial project going.
On a similar note, we have more than 200 members who have not paid their dues or charity donations for the 2020-2021 year. This is more than $20,000 the Lodge needs to keep its doors open on even our limited basis, including the charity and other work we do locally. If you are one of those people, please consider paying your dues before September 30th. While we know the Lodge is not open, your dues are much needed to keep us paying the bills that haven’t stopped.
WE WILL BE OPEN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, AND HOPE THAT OUR MEMBERS IN GOOD STANDING CAN JOIN US
WHEN THAT HAPPENS!! THANK YOU ALL!!
Elk of the Month is Debbie Evans. Thank you all for your great help and for organizing the Friday “To-Go” Dinners.
CHARITY, JUSTICE, BROTHERLY LOVE, AND FIDELITY
A note from the Exalted Ruler Michael Huff
Do you know any former members of the Elks who would like to get reinstated? Now is their big opportunity. Lompoc Elks has a special program during the months of August and Sep-tember where a former member
can get reinstated for only one dollar. Normal reinstatement is $50.00, so this is a real bargain. August is past but if you know someone that would like to be rein-stated now is the time.
As a reminder, DDGER Ed Martin will be visiting Lompoc Elks on September 15, 2020. Officers and Committee Chairpersons will be working hard to make sure the Lodge is meeting all the requirements. This visitation will be a little different from the past in that due to the COVID-19 situation, there will not be a dinner reception. The Committee Chairman meeting with the DDGER will also be cancelled but Committee Chair reports will still need to be submitted.
Finally, I would like to appeal to all members that have not paid their dues for Elk Year 2020-2021 to please do so now. Currently, 212 of our members have not paid their dues for a Lapsation rate of 21.9%. By this time we normally have a Lapsation rate of 12%, so we are way behind. Your dues are essential to the Lodge’s ability to continue. Please remember that your Lodge needs you and without your support we can’t survive.
Fraternally, Bob Schrum, PDDGER, Secretary

MAJOR PROJECTS - THANK YOU BY ROBERT SCHRUM
During July four members con-tributed to Major Projects a total of $70.00. During this Coronavirus pandemic please don’t forget our children with special needs. Lately dona-tions have been really low. I know this is a hard time for all of us but it is especially hard on the children. Chil-dren with disabilities really need our help so if you can, please donate to Major Project and help a child run and play. Remember to bring your purple Pig banks to the Lodge Office and receive your tax deduction receipt.
