A BRIEF REFLECTION ON THE WORD OF GOD. This Third Sunday of Advent is known as ‘Gaudete Sunday’ from the Latin meaning ‘Rejoice’ as in the Entrance Antiphon for this Sunday “Rejoice in the Lord - Always”. St Paul (Second reading) encourages us to have confidence in God, to be happy in the Lord. We do not need to worry, because if there is anything we need, we can ask God for it. God will give us a peace of heart and mind that is far greater than we can grasp or understand, keeping us safe in Christ Jesus. In the Gospel, the people come to John the Baptist to ask him, ‘what must we do?’ to prepare for the coming of the Christ. The answer is not the same for everyone, but all are asked to live a just life and share with those who have less than ourselves. Knowing where we are in our relationship with God and being honest enough to acknowledge our weaknesses and faults is a key part in our preparation during Advent, people came to John asking what must they do, our challenge is to meet with the Lord and ask him to help us and to acknowledge the loving presence of God in our lives which will give us a sense of joy whatever obstacles and threats we face. THE SYNOD 2021-2023 “For a Synodal Church Communion, Participation & Mission.” The Diocesan Synod has already been launched, we are invited to continue to pray for its success and actively participate in its process. We shall continue to say the “Prayer for the Synod” every Sunday after the universal (Bidding) prayers. Please come along with your prayer cards for the Synod, or pick one up from the back of the church. The Synod on Synodality 2021-2023: Diocesan Consultation There will be an area meeting in the church hall of St Mary’s Cathedra, at 7.oopm on Thursday 13th January, for all parishioners who are interested in participating in the Diocesan Consultation, in preparation for the Synod of Bishops in 2023, called by Pope Francis. Bishop Brignall has asked Fr Ian Dalgleish to organise the Wrexham Diocese response to the Synod, and at this meeting Fr Ian will lay out some of the main themes of Synodality, under the official title for the Synod: “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, and Mission”. Hopefully the meeting will also discuss how each individual parish can then play its part in the diocesan consultation. Please consider coming to this meeting and participating in Pope Francis’s worldwide synodal process. Thank you.

CATECHISM CORNER : THE LAY FAITHFUL:

The term “LAITY” is here understood to mean all the faithful except those in Holy orders and those who belong to a religious state approved by the Church. That is the faithful who by Baptism are

incorporated into Christ and integrated into the People of God are made sharers in their particular Way in the Priestly, Prophetic and Kingly office of Christ, and have their own Part to play in the

mission of the whole Christian People in the Church and in the world. ( THIS PARAGRAPH OF LAY FAITHFUL IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW IN DETAIL ESPECIALLY WHEN WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF THE SYNODY 2021-2023. TAKE TIME AND KNOW YOUR POSITION NOW, WE SHALL CONTINUE

NEXT WEEK,)

PRAYER FOR THE SYNOD: We stand before you, Holy Spirit, As we gather together in your name, With You alone to guide us, make Yourself at home in our hearts; Teach us the way we must go

and how we are to pursue it. We are weak and sinful do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path ,nor partiality influence our actions. Let us find in You our unity ,so that we may journey together to eternal life and not stray from the way of truth and what is right. All this we ask of you, who are at work in every place and time, in the communion of the Father, and the Son

Forever and ever. Amen. Covid-19 Omicron variant With the increased concern about Covid-19 it becomes more important to observe the basic elements in previous advice: -That people displaying any symptoms of Covid-19 should stay at home and not travel to church or participate in person. - There is hand sanitiser available for those attending the church. - It is a strong recommendation for people to wear face covering (both nose and mouth) during the act of worship. - We ask people to wrap up well in church because of climatic conditions as our ventilation and air throughput will be open. - We are advised and to get vaccinated and have the booster jab when able is delivered whenever possible. - That people who are engaged in a form of pastoral ministry which involves ministry to the housebound, sick and vulnerable, should take regular lateral flow tests to ensure they are safe to do so. These are free from the NHS. If these guidance are supported, then the churches will continue to be safe places for people to gather for acts of public worship, including over the Christmas period. Parises will be informed if the situation changes following any further advice from Welsh Government.
