Happy New Year!
THE BLESSING WE RECEIVE The blessing we experience in Christ Jesus is proclaimed in Numbers as the special blessing for the people of Israel. They and we are to be blessed by the invocation of God’s loving kindness, the shining glory of God’s face turned toward us in love, not away from us in anger. We are blessed by God’s own peace! Our wish and our hope are fulfilled in this blessing, which is made visible in the coming of Jesus. In Jesus, the image of the invisible God, God’s face is shown to us and God’s presence is made known to us in faithful and loving kindness. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
May the peace of Christ Jesus dwell in your home during the Christmas Season and through the coming year.

COLLECTION REPORT for December 25 Due to the holiday schedule and the early printing deadline of this bulletin, the collection report for the Christmas weekend will be listed in the following bulletin.
DID YOU KNOW… Catholics love to have priests or deacons bless some of their personal belongings—their homes, cars, or pets. More often, however, Catholics ask priests to bless a personal and tangible religious item—their rosary, medal, statue, Bible, and so on. Any article of devotion or something integral to human life and activity can be blessed, but that doesn’t mean it becomes a lucky charm. The priestly blessing is merely a way of showing gratitude to God for his divine grace and putting these blessed items under His watchful card. –from the book Catholicism for Dummies

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION “Octave” comes from the Latin word for “eight,” and since eight is one step beyond seven, the number of days in a week, it has long been seen as a symbol of perfection, completion, and new beginnings. Early Christians called Sunday the “eighth day,” since it was the day after the Sabbath and a day of resurrected life, the Lord’s Day. By the seventh century, people regarded the eight days after Easter Sunday as one great day, an octave, one glorious feast when people were forbidden to fast or kneel. In the seventh century, Pentecost acquired an Octave, too. Christmas didn’t claim the honor of a continuous feast, but it did get an Octave Day. January 1 is the oldest Marian feast, the Octave of Christmas. It was originally a feast of the motherhood of Mary, although for centuries until 1969 it was called the Feast of the Circumcision. Our reformed calendar follows the earlier tradition of celebrating Mary as Mother of God. —James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
ARE YOU A REGISTERED PARISHIONER?? If you are living in our parish and are not a registered parishioner, you are invited to contact the Church Office to register. Once registered, you will receive the bulletin and monthly contribution envelopes as well as any other correspondence sent out from our Church Office. Please call the Church Office at 383-1838.
HOSPITAL INFORMATION Please know that if you are admitted into either Our Lady of the Lake Hospital or the Baton Rouge General hospital and are in immediate need a priest, both hospitals have one on staff. They are available 24 hours a day. Please make your request known to one of the nursing staff and they will assist you.
If you or a loved one is admitted into the hospital, especially if you have entered the hospital by way of the emergency room, please contact the Church Office at 383-1838 to let us know. Not all hospitals contact us and the emergency room does not take the necessary information. This may be the only way we are aware of a hospital stay.
ATTENTION ALL PARISHIONERS If an adult “child” is still living at home over the age of 22, they should be registered independently from their parents. They should take on the responsibility of their own active faith life. As adult Catholics they should be involved in the ministry of “Stewardship: A Way of Life”, by practicing sharing their time, talent or treasure with Holy Family Parish. Each adult child, 23 years of age or older, is no longer listed as a registered parishioner under their parents information. They are now classified as “inactive” status and are no longer be “registered” parishioners of Holy Family Parish. If you have an adult child still living at home who is mentally or physically disabled and needs to remain as a dependent, we do understand. Please notify the church office at 383-1838. Any young adult living in this parish should contact the church office to officially register as a parishioner of Holy Family Church.
ANOINTING OF THE SICK The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is offered here to anyone who is facing surgery of any kind or serious illness. It is offered either at daily Mass or privately. To receive this very comforting sacrament, please contact the Church Office.
