Each piece of the window tells a story.
Remember, books are expensive and people

Illuminating the public:o The printing press had not
been invented yet, so any book had to be copied by hand!
o This was a long (and boring) task that monks performed
And you thought you
had to do a lot of writing!
Rise of the Church:________________________________________________________
Illuminating the public:
Each page was made out of sheep skin that was
stretched and dried to be used as paper. This created
a very durable surface.
Rise of the Church:________________________________________________________
Illuminating the public:A single book could take 200 to 300 sheep skins and was very costly. In modern terms, after the sheep
skin, ink, and labor were accounted for, one book could cost over
$30,000!So… WHO
READS?!?!
