Mission Statement

THE SCHOOL ETHOS

The aim of Capital School, Bahrain is to offer the best elements of the British education system

supplemented by modern international educational practice, based upon our students achieving high

academic standards, making sound judgments and having clearly defined moral values. We hope to

provide a firm foundation for our students to succeed in an ever-changing multicultural world and

develop into successful learners, confident individuals and good citizens.

We aim to give each child the best level of education possible, not just in academic training, but also in

terms of character formation, developing the whole personality and awakening new interests, so that

when our students leave school we can expect them to become effective, happy and responsible

members of society.

Basic to our values is our abiding belief in human worth. Our focus is always on potential: to help

students to discover and appreciate their own uniqueness and value while providing an environment

where there is freedom and order and a balance between the needs of the individual and those of the

community.

Uniform Policy

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

Our policy on school uniform is based on the notion that school uniform:

promotes a sense of pride in the school;

engenders a sense of community and belonging towards the school;

is practical and smart;

identifies the children with the school;

prevents children from coming to school in fashion clothes that could be distracting in class;

makes children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance;

is regarded as suitable wear for school and good value for money by most parents;

is designed with health and safety in mind.

Jewellery

On health and safety grounds we do not allow children to wear jewelry in our school. The exceptions to

this rule are ear-ring studs in pierced ears and a wrist watch. We ask the children to either remove these

objects during PE and games, or cover them with a plaster, to prevent them from causing injury.

Extreme haircuts

The school does not permit children to have ‘extreme’ haircuts.

Footwear

The school wants all children to grow into healthy adults. We believe that it is dangerous for children to

wear shoes that have platform soles or high heels, so we do not allow children to wear such shoes in our

school. Neither do we allow children to wear trainers to school; this is because we think that this

footwear is appropriate for sport or for leisurewear, but is not in keeping with the smart appearance of

a school uniform. We require all children to wear shoes as stated in the uniform list.

PE

PE kit should only be worn into school if children have a scheduled PE lesson.

Hair Ornaments

On health and safety grounds hair ornaments should be functional and in keeping with the uniform.

Hats

All children must wear a hat during the hotter months. We operate a ‘no hat—no play’ policy.

Years 5-6 have the option of wearing a Navy baseball cap instead of a sunhat. ALL articles of clothing

must be clearly named.

Drop Off / School Start time Drop off is from 7:35am, via the main gate. School will start at 7:45am for ALL children.

Healthy Eating

Healthy Snacks and Drinks

Children have two breaks during the day, except for Foundation Stage 1 children. We expect children to

arrive at school having had a filling and nutritious breakfast. We promote healthy eating and discuss the

need to eat fruit and vegetables with the children. Drinks may be brought into school, however fizzy

drinks are not permitted, or in glass bottles or cans. Water is freely available but children are

encouraged to bring water bottles with them every day.

Sleep

A good night’s sleep is one of the key factors contributing to enhanced student performance. It is

recommended that Primary School children should have no less than 10 hours sleep per night

(Department of Health 2010). That means going to bed no later than 8pm!

We have a few staff and children in the school, who become dangerously ill if exposed to others who

have eaten or are eating nuts and food containing nuts. So please check food labels for nut content and

do not send your child to school with:

NUTS, PEANUT BUTTER, NUTELLA or CEREAL BREAKFAST BARS

Can we also, please request that no pork products are sent with the children.

School Nurse - Illness and Absence

Absence and Illness

We have a full time nurse who is always available to deal with injuries and illness. If you child is unwell

during the night please do not send them in the next day. Please telephone the school in the morning.

If you child has a medical appointment please inform your child’s teacher the day before. If the

appointment is during the day please report to reception and your child will be brought out to you.

Should you wish to take your child away during term time you must inform the school in writing, in

advance. Should you need to take your child away during term time you must inform the school in

writing in advance. Please ensure your contact details are kept up to date.

Medication

Medication should not be carried by students. Inhalers for asthmatics must be labeled with the child’s

name and given to the Nurse. Any student who requires administration of medication during school

hours should have a written note from his/her parent(s) detailing time, and amount to be administered.

This should be given to the nurse on arrival at the Primary School.

Emergencies

In the unlikely event of an emergency, the policy of Capital School will take an injured Student

to Salmaniya Hospital. In this event every attempt will be made to contact the parents.

Illness

If your child becomes unwell or needs medication whilst at school, you will be notified and if needed,

you will be asked to collect your child.

It is important to give children time to recover from illness before returning to the school environment.

Please ring the school by 8am if your child is off sick, or alternatively, e-mail the school nurse. Please do

not send your child to school if he/she requires medicine to reduce a fever. This will only mask

symptoms and spread the illness to others. If your child has vomiting or diarrhea, they should not return

to school until 48HRS AFTER THE LAST EPISODE (Health Protection Agency 2010).

Communicable Diseases

We need to know if your child develops any communicable diseases such as chickenpox, cold sores,

measles, impetigo, moll scum, ringworm, threadworm, scabies, scarlet fever, shingle, warts and

verrucae, respiratory infections and gastrointestinal illness.

The school should also be informed if your child becomes infested with head lice and nit eggs, in order

that we can check the rest of the students in your child’s class. Head lice are very difficult to eradicate

so, please keep long hair tied back at all times and please do not send your child to school if he/she is

infested.

Immunisations It is your responsibility to ensure that your child is up to date with immunizations. Children in the Primary School need to have their Basic Pre-School Boosters. This should be done by the time they start year 1: MMR2, Diphtheria, Tetanus, Whooping Cough and Polio. The Ministry of Health requires a copy of your child’s vaccination record; this should be handed to the school nurse.

Complaint Policy

The procedure for a parent to submit a complaint is as follows

The first point of contact must be the class teacher. The teacher is the most informed

regarding the child’s behaviour and academic progress and should therefore must be the

primary reference; even in the case where the teacher themselves is the subject of the

complaint.

In the case where the parent feels that the teacher has inadequately addressed the

complaint, then the parent can bring the matter to the attention of the Administration

department.

Lastly, if the Administration department deems it necessary then the Principal will be

involved in the complaint.

For all complaints, Capital School will carry out an internal investigating, interviewing the parties

involved as well as student and teacher witness accounts. Once this is carried out, then the parent

will be informed of the outcome.

If the complaint is lodged against the bus company or an incident that took place in the bus, the CCTV

footage will be reviewed in addition to the investigation above. Kindly note that parents will not be

permitted to view any of the CCTV footage directly but will receive a detailed report of the incident from

the Administration department.

Music

Curriculum

General music will be taught during the day.

Language

From Foundation Stage 2 to Year 2 Native Arabic speaking children will attend Arabic class. From

Year 3 to Year 6 Native Arabic speakers will continue with Arabic A classes and non-native

speakers will take French along with two Arabic Support classes per week.

Islam

Islam will be taught once a week to Muslim Children in Arabic in accordance with the Ministry of

Education Curriculum

Homework

Homework is optional as per Ministry of Education guidance.

Foundation Stage 1 and 2

Foundation Stage 1 and 2 will not be given regular homework but will be encouraged to take a daily

reading book and number work home

Year 1 — 2

Year 1 and 2 children will receive weekly reading books and spelling lists and preparation for weekly

mental Maths tests.

Children should read for 15 minutes every day.

Years 3 — 6

Children in years 3 and 4 will get ever increasing amounts of homework. In year 3 Maths activities will

be set along with and preparation for weekly mental Maths tests & reading and spelling lists as well as

investigations into half termly study.

Children in years 5 and 6 will receive project based work and curriculum related activities in addition to

Maths

Prayer

A prayer room will be made available for any children wishing to use it.

THE PRIMARY SCHOOL LIBRARY

The Primary School Library is for all Primary School Students to enjoy. All classes will be allocated library

sessions during the week when students can learn library skills as well as use the facilities provided.

Borrowing Books

Students are able to borrow books on a weekly basis. These must be returned on or before the date

stamped inside. If they wish to keep a book longer it should be taken to the Librarian to have it re-

stamped.

No books should be removed from the library without being checked out by the Librarian. Students

should also ensure books are checked in by the Librarian when they are returned.

Using the Library

In addition to the timetabled library sessions, students are allowed to use the library during breaks.

However, this is a privilege, and students are expected to respect this by behaving in an appropriate

manner. Those who disturb others will be asked to leave and will lose this privilege.

Students are expected to take proper care of the books. Any damage will be charged for either repair or

replacement. All Primary School students are expected to use book bags to carry all books to and from

the school.

Fines

If a student loses or damages a book, a fee is charged for its replacement based on the cost of

purchasing a direct replacement.

Extra Curricular Activities

There will be an array of after-school activities which will be available from the beginning of the

Academic year.

Please note below the guidelines for after school activities:

We ask that you indicate three preferences of activities for your child. We then allocate the first

preference on a first come first served basis. We can only guarantee that each child will be

allocated one activity per week.

After the initial two sessions of activities (i.e. 2 weeks) children will not be allowed to change to

a different activity. If your child is unhappy in the activity they have selected they can elect to

withdraw from the activity but a new activity will not be allocated.

If your child wishes to drop out of an activity, we would ask that you write to us confirming the

same. Otherwise, we would expect your child to commit fully to the activity and attend

regularly.

If your child has been present at school but is not attending their chosen activity that day, please

let us know. This will prevent us having to contact you to try and find out the whereabouts of

your child. To report an absence of a child from their after school activity please email

The activities are run on a termly basis and once a student has elected to join an activity, participation is

expected for the whole term. Places in activities will be allocated on a first come first served basis and

students are expected to attend regularly. Students who do not get a place in their preferred activity will

be offered an alternative wherever possible.

The extra-curricular activities programme aims to broaden the development of students and their

interests through the activities available. Some activities are provided by outside agencies who charge

for their services. Students who attend these clubs enter into a private arrangement with these

organisations and should communicate directly with them regarding the activities they provide.

Tuition fees are subject to a sibling discount; the oldest child is payable at full price, the second child is

awarded a 5% discount and third and subsequent children will receive a 10% discount.

Please note that the BHD100 Registration fee is non-refundable. Parents will also be asked to confirm

their child’s registration for the next academic year 2020/2021 by making a payment of Seat Security fee

of BHD 100 at the beginning of 2020 which is also a non-refundable fee.

Refund Policy.

Should you choose to remove your child from Capital school for any reason, you will

receive a refund of the deposit (200BD) but NO other fees paid will be refunded.

Transport

Bus Service

The bus service for children will be provided by Almoayyed Transport; specializing in children’s transport. Every child will be required to wear a seat belt at all times. Children will be required to behave responsibly on the bus and any occurrence of bullying, misbehaviour or violation of these rules will result in a warning letter. Any further violations will result in immediate suspension from the bus service.

Children will be supervised on the bus by a qualified first aid professional assistant to accompany the driver.

Fees must be paid termly, to the school at our accounts office. Upon registration for school transportation, the service can take up to 3 working days to activate. In the case of cancellation, parents must notify the Admissions office in writing and fees will not be refunded for that term.

All parents must sign the Terms & conditions in order to use the bus service.

Note that Almoayyed Transport have no legal, financial or commercial affiliation with Capital School & parents may choose any transportation company they wish. NB: At the time of publishing all details are up to date and subject to review as the year progresses.
