Welcome

Background and Study Intent Background and Study Intent

VDOT completed the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel Expansion Feasibility Study in 2008. The study examined several build alternatives for the HRBT Corridor.

Current EIS study is a required step for Federal approval before capacity improvements could be made.

During this study, the study team will identify the transportation needs, develop reasonable alternatives, and evaluate likely environmental impacts.

Welcome to the public scoping meeting for the I-64 Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel (HRBT) Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

The goals of this meeting are:

To obtain your input on issues that should be considered in the EIS

To share information that is available at this early stage of the study

Representatives of VDOT are available to answer your questions and listen to your thoughts and concerns.

Hampton Roads Third Crossing / Patriot's Crossing

Interstate 64 Peninsula Study

Hampton Roads Third Crossing / Patriot's Crossing

Interstate 64 Peninsula Study

Initiated in late 1993 to investigate methods to improve mobility across Hampton Roads and relieve congestion at the Interstate 64 Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel.

Final EIS prepared in 2000 to assess the impact of building a new crossing in Hampton Roads.

VDOT is now reevaluating the EIS. Reevaluation will include the Craney Island Connector and a new bridge tunnel that would connect I-564 and I-664 (Patriot's Crossing).

Extends approximately 75 miles, from I-95 in Richmond to I-664 in Hampton.

Study will identify transportation needs within the I-64 corridor and evaluate the impacts of proposed improvements to meet those needs.

An EIS is being prepared for the project.
