What kind of charac- ters would you want to play in future? Any character that has a strong arc – you know ones that are multi-dimen- sional or have conflict and that tell a story. I’m not interested in something that’s just uncandid. Another upco- ming movie of yours, Aisha, is said to be the modern adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel Emma. How does it feel playing such a strong-mind- ed yet meddling character? Strong minded, meddling and a brat! It was fun because I suppose I’m a bit spoiled – not that my parents spoil me, but I spoil myself. I love spending money and I do meddle in people’s lives because I enjoy talking with my friends about things. I think it’s the Punjabi in me. So what is the most expensive thing you have bought yourself then? It would be the car I bought myself. It’s an Audi, but I have never taken money from my parents and I’ve made sure they have not bought me anything expensive since I started earning my own money. It’s nice spending your own money because you feel like you have worked hard for it and you just wanna buy things. Which other films do you have on the way? I have three films coming out soon, which are Aisha, Mausam and Thank You. What have you learned about yourself as an actor in your short time in the industry? (Thinks) That I have a lot of patience as well as a lot of endurance. You are noticed as much for your fashion sense as your talent. Does that put pressure on you to dress well when you leave the house? (Laughs) No, not really! If you see me every day I am the biggest bum in the world. I mean, I do enjoy clothes and like getting dressed up, but I think I’m just a girl who loves clothes and peo- ple happen to like what I wear. If you see me at home or with my friends I’m al- ways in my sweats and UGG boots, looking like a slob. Will we see you launching your own fashion line in the future? No, I like buying clothes for myself but I don’t know about making them for other people. I would just end up buying them all for myself eventually, anyway. What are some of your style secrets? I believe in comfort, having fun and not follow- ing fashion trends when it comes to clothes. What is the best and worst thing about being Sonam Kapoor right now? The best thing is being an actress and having great films, but the worst thing would be not getting enough sleep. What are your interests away from work? I love reading, electronics and playing video games. I love chocolate, Thai food and I adore art. In fact, I like to collect art. Oh, and I love to dance and watch movies. You famously lost a lot of weight before your debut. What would you say to girls struggling with their weight or stressing over it? I would say, don’t stress over it because that is bad. It’s not necessary to be skinny unless you have a health issue. I did have a stress issue so I had to lose weight, but I don’t think it’s impor- tant to be skinny. You need to be comfortable with yourself and feel beautiful, because then you automatically are beautiful. Finally, would you like to give us a message for your growing legion of UK fans? I definitely think they should go and see I Hate Love Storys and just have fun with it, you know, not take it too seriously. I Hate Luv Storys is in cine mas now. I NEVER intended to steal a baby, I just needed to borrow one for a few minutes. But it’s easy to see how misunderstandings happen when chil- dren who are not yours are found ‘upon your person’, as the police would say. All I wanted to do was surprise my friend with a little gift. As we wandered around the shops with her new-born son in a pram, we stopped to sniff a new perfume and we both liked it. ‘Right,’ I thought, ‘I’ll wait until she’s not looking and I’ll buy her a bottle and sneak it in- to her bag as a surprise.’ But every time I picked up the two bottles, she would wander back to the same aisle where I was before I had had a chance to go to the till. This is when things started to go wrong. The store detective noticed my odd behaviour, and after all, who wouldn’t? A woman picks up two bottles of perfume, looks around suspiciously, spots something and quickly puts them back. I resorted to plan B – distract her by showing her something she liked in another shop and then return to the first one. So making my ex- cuses about having to make a call outside, I ran back to the perfume shop. I could see the secu- rity guard’s eyes light up as he spotted me; sure- ly this time I’ll catch her in the act, he seemed to be saying. But I paid for my two bottles fair and square and ran back to find my friend who, by now, was in a card shop. With her bag hanging off the pram, there was only one option – I had to take the baby. As she searched for a card, I said I would take the baby and wait for her outside the shop to give her a few minutes peace, and virtually snatched the pram from her hands. Another shopper noticed me as I careered past her in a hurry and clearly not used to handling a pram. She glanced down at the pram and then looked at me in horror – this was clearly not my child, the baby’s white skin and ginger hair gave that away. I must be a crazed baby snatcher, you could almost hear her think. Struggling with the zip on my friend’s bag, I had now also attracted the attention of the woman on the till, who had noticed me coming in with my friend. In the space of 15 minutes, I had been branded a shoplifter, a baby snatcher and a common thief. It was worth it to see my friend’s face when she found her gift, though it could just have been relief that her friend who had been acting oddly hadn’t run off with her baby... How do I treat dry hair? Those who have dry hair will see the problem get worse during the hot summer months. If the moisture level in your hair drops below a certain level then it will significantly de- crease the hair’s ability to attract and retain moisture. The right moisturising hair prod- uct will replace lost moisture and help retain it during the current heat wave. If you have longer hair then get one or two drops of sunflower oil in your palms, rub them together, scrunch the end of your hair and work towards the scalp slowly – us- ing such a tiny amount means you won’t no- tice it’s there, so make sure you don’t go overboard with the oil. It’s important to remember that excessive shampooing and colouring products can cause dry hair as well as the overuse of hairdryers and straighteners. So once you have used a nourishing shampoo and intensive condi- tioner, allow the hair to dry naturally before you style it or use a hairdryer on a very low setting. Finally, use a bristle brush to spread the naturally produced oil gently down the hair and if you are holidaying in a very hot place, wear a hat when you go out in the sun.
