Overview The H3C ® S7500E Series of modular core switches is the next generation of multi-layer switches that meet the evolving needs of integrated services networks. The switches in this portfolio can be deployed in multiple network environments like the enterprise LAN core, aggregation and wiring closet edge, as well the convergence and edge of Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs). A passive backplane, support for load sharing, and redundant management and fabrics help S7500E Series switches offer high availability. With modern merchant silicon, high-speed backplanes and the latest distributed switching technology, these switches deliver wire-speed Layer 2 and Layer 3 routing services for the most demanding applications. This next- generation architecture also provides enterprises with long- term network infrastructure investment protection. Supporting high-reliability technologies such as non-stop forwarding (NSF) and ring network protection, S7500E Series switches ensure maximum uptime, improving productivity and reducing the total cost of ownership. This switch line is environmentally friendly, meeting the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) standards. The H3C S7500E Series of modular core switches features six chassis models to provide flexibility based on the switching capacity and interface port density required: S7510E has 12 slots; S7506E has 8 slots; S7506E-V has 8 vertical slots; S7503E has 5 slots; S7503E-S has 3 slots; and S7502E has 4 slots. Resilient Architecture for Business ContinuityThe S7500E switch series has a high-availability design including apassive backplane, load-sharing fabrics and managementmodules, and redundant fans and power supplies. All elements inthe system can be hot-swapped, minimizing the impact of singlecomponent failure. Changes in network topology due to device orlink failures can lead to disruption of service for critical businessapplications; Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP), RapidSpanning Tree Protocol (RSTP), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF),Equal Cost Multi Path (ECMP) and Virtual Router RedundancyProtocol (VRRP) ensure rapid recovery from such topology changes.

S7500E Series modular core switches support H3C IRFtechnology, an innovative resilient virtual switching fabricwhich enables two interconnected chassis to operate as asingle logical entity for management, Layer 2 switching andLayer 3 routing. These capabilities are available even when thetwo chassis are in different geographic locations to supportdisaster recovery applications.

S7500E switches also support Rapid Ring Protection Protocol(RRPP), which enables the creation of fast recovery rings usingstandard Ethernet technology.

Convergence Support Real-time applications such as VoIP demand high QoS anddifferentiated service levels to function properly. S7500E modularcore switches provide robust QoS and advanced traffic managementfeatures to enable mission-critical applications to be prioritizedand serviced as dictated by the needs of an organization.

Additionally, the S7500E portfolio supports industry-standard IEEE802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE), which provides both electricalpower and network connectivity to PoE-capable devices such as IPtelephones and wireless access points. PoE makes these switchesideal for large-scale edge deployments by eliminating the need forseparate data and power infrastructures, and lowering anenterprise network's total cost of ownership.

These switches also support flexible PoE solutions includinghybrid power supplies that provide both data and power.

Extensive Security FeaturesSecurity is paramount for today’s enterprise networks. TheS7500E switch series delivers advanced security including userand device authentication, policy-driven and bi-directionalhardware-based and wire-speed access control lists (ACLs),encrypted protocol headers and system management access.They also support 802.1X Network Login and RemoteAuthentication Dial-In User Service (RADIUS) to enable useraccess control. Port, VLAN and media access control (MAC)address authentication provide additional security.

Scalable PerformanceThe S7510E has a 2.4 Tbps backplane, providing enhancedperformance and future expansion capability. With dual fabrics,the switch delivers up to 714 Mpps throughput.

A wide selection of modules enable a single switch to support up to84 10 Gigabit Ethernet, and 504 Gigabit Ethernet and Fast Ethernetports. Flexible modules combine 10 Gigabit Ethernet and GigabitEthernet in a single module. Comprehensive set of 10 GigabitEthernet modules available with support for XFP transceivers orefficient, cost-effective SFP+ transceivers. All fiber-based GigabitEthernet modules support both 100BASE-FX and1000BASE-X transceivers.

Standards-based link aggregation—supported across modules—enables aggregating multiple links together as a trunk.

Enterprise-Class ManagementS7500E Series switches feature independent data and controlpaths. A dedicated data channel provides high-speed dataswitching and packet forwarding, while a separatemanagement channel provides control, monitoring, and routelearning and distribution.

Comprehensive management features enable these switches toprovide enterprise-wide visibility and control to IT staff forconfiguration, network monitoring and advanced troubleshooting.Switch management is accessible through an industry-standardCLI with hierarchical access controls, and an intuitive GUI, a Web-based interface, or Simple Network Management Protocol(SNMP), all of which feature password protection.

The user authentication and encryption capabilities of SNMP v3and SSH v2 provide additional switch management security,and further reduce the likelihood of unauthorized access orsnooping of management traffic.

High-Density Wiring Closet (Integrated Network)Conventional wireless networking modes cannot meet therequirements of IPv6, wireless security, user management,wireless VoIP and other applications. The wireless controllerand FIT access point (AP) control structure of S7500E Seriesswitches delivers centralized AP management andconfiguration. It supports centralized user rights distribution andcontrol, auto download of configuration files by APs, autoupgrade of software, IPv6, wireless security, RF management,L3 roaming and the deployment of value-added services suchas voice and video. S7500E switches are based on a unifiedhardware and software platform. Wired and wirelessintegrated solutions overcome difficulties such as deploying andmanaging separate wired and wireless equipment split, andnetwork and user management. Integrated wired and wirelesssolutions overcome difficulties associated with separateequipment management and control.

The S7500E Series is well suited for for high-density wiringclosets. A single switch can provide up to 504 Gigabit Ethernetports and 84 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports. S7500E switchessupport:

› Intelligent Management Center (IMC) Endpoint AdmissionDefense (EAD), accessing permission granting according tothe security status of users;

› PoE, voice and wireless services;› 8 priority queues per port to meet multimedia requirementssuch as video and voice;

› High QoS for new services; and› Abundant IPv4/IPv6 multicast protocols to facilitate thedeployment of new multimedia services.
