  • 1Industry-leading* UIS2 Optics Take Digital Micro Imaging Systems to the Next GenerationThe optical system, heart of a microscope, uses our UIS2 infinity-corrected optical system evolvedfrom the industrial leading UIS2 optical system. High quality images are obtained for everyobservation method, and the performance of the digital camera is optimized in flexibility. Digitalimages transferred to a PC can be easily used by use of advanced image analysis software.

The GX series is Olympus' most advanced inverted metallurgical microscope system. With additionof motorized functions, complete integration into all digital imaging subsystem is possible to provideadvanced solutions for cutting edge research by its digital imaging system in pursuit of high qualityand simplicity, motorized modules whichincrease observation efficiency, and otherbeneficial features.

The GX Series also strongly promotesenvironmentally-friendly manufacturing with a lead-free optical system.

Natural color reproduction faithful to thespecimenUIS2 objective lenses realize natural colorreproduction without any chromatic shifts usingstringently selected high transmittance glass andadvanced coating technology that provides hightransmittance which is flat over a wide bandwavelength. In addition, since the total opticalsystem, including the tube lens is designed to reproduce a natural color, clear images faithful tothe specimen are obtained even with digital imaging.

An example of 3D display of a wave front measured with a laserinterferometer. The flatter the surface of the lens, the better theaberration correction becomes.

A New standard of the objective lens perfor-mance, using wavefront aberration controlThe Olympus UIS2 objective lenses set a newstandard, with wavefront aberration control inaddition to common performance standards ofN.A. and W.D. Olympus challenges top gradeoptics which has not been fulfilled by theconventional standards. We offer excellentperformance objective lenses by lowering theaberrations that lower resolution.

  • 4Promotes environmentally-friendlyecologization and weight reductionOlympus has considered the environment and hastackled ecologization of microscopes. As part ofthis, on introduction of UIS2 optical system, eco-friendly glass free of lead and arsenic is used in theobjective lenses and the major Semi-apochromaticUIS2 objective lenses are lightened byapproximately 2/3. This contributes to preventionof environmental pollution, improvement ofoperability of objective lenses replacement, etc.*Some UIS2 objective lenses are the same weight as conventionalobjective lenses

Removes spot flare during low magnificationobservationWhen a low reflection specimen is observed inlower power magnifications, spot flare may hinderprecise observation. In UIS2 low powerobservation, a depolarizer built into the objectivelens end removes spot flare and, a clear, highcontrast image is obtained by combining a set ofpolarizer and analyzer plate. * 1.25x and 2.5x objective

    Spot flareNo depolarizer

Since the light reflected from thesurface of the objective lenses isthe linearly-polarized light as is,it is eliminated by analyzer atCrossed Nicol position and hasno affect on the image. On theother hand, the light passedthrough the depolarizer at theend of the objective lensbecomes unpolarized light, andwhen the unpolarized lightreflected from the specimenpasses through the analyzer, only the linearly-polarized lightthat matches the vibrationdirection of the analyzer passesthrough and forms an image.

  • Operations that you want to save variouspowered modules fulfill your requirementsThanks to various motorized modules, speedymagnification change, easy observation modeselection from brightfield to simple polarizing andillumination filter switching are performed throughhand control panel or PC. Automation allows theoperator to focus on the crisp UIS2 images. You only need to add the automation you needwithout adding any extras. Motorized revolving nosepieces U-D6REM, U-D5BDREM and motorized filter wheel U-FWR can also be added onto the GX51.Image analysis software OLYMPUS Stream is required for control from a PC.

Getting the optimized image with anyobservation methodThe UIS2 infinity-corrected optical system wasdeveloped with Olympus unique knowledge and the GX series is designed to perform well inthe context of inverted metallurgical microscopes. The results are sharp, detailed images withexcellent contrast and consistently high clarity withany and all observation methods. Equipped with100 W halogen lamp and newly improvedefficiency, the GX series microscopes provide theintense and even illumination.

The bright darkfield imagesThe UIS2 contrast has improved brightness anddelivers better sensitivities for holes or flaws onmetallographic structure.

Digital Micro Imaging Solutions for ObtainingHigh Quality Microscopic Images

Digital imaging ? No, it is digital micro imagingHigh resolution objective lenses, high transmittanceoptical system and uniform brightness illuminationsystem extract excellent performance from thedigital camera. Olympus offers two types of digitalimaging device, space-saving simple-operationstandalone models, and completely controlled PC-basis models, for all observation methods rangingfrom brightfield to fluorescence. Choose thecamera matched to your purpose and budget.Olympus offers digital micro imaging solutions formicroscopes based on many years ofoptoelectronics technologies.

Accurate post-imaging measurementsIntegration with a coded revolving nosepiece allows sharing and recording of objective lensmagnification. A coded revolving nosepieceeliminates errors that occur when the wrongmagnification is manually recorded by the operator. The coded revolving nosepiece is available in twotypes; for brightfield objective lens and forbrightfield/darkfield objective lens.

This module is for casting manufacturers whoneed to measure and control the graphitenodularity to check the mechanicalcharacteristics of their cast products. WithOLYMPUS Stream, this nodularity can becalculated by graphite size, shape, anddistribution. The results are automatically createdaccording to industrial standards (JIS G5502,ASTM E247, and ISO945).

This module is for steel manufacturers measuringand controlling grain size after cross-sectioning,polishing or etching steel samples. OLYMPUSStream can calculate the grain size number G bythe intercept or planimetric method automaticallywith no time consuming manual actions. Theresults are created according to internationalstandards (JIS G5502, ASTM E112, andDIN50601).

A live or still image can be compared withstandard charts. Overlay comparisons can bemade, and function preview is available. Thismodule can be used for ASTM grain size numberevaluation, non-metallic inclusion rating, andcast-iron shape class evaluation. The true reproductionmakes it easier to compare the images withdigital photos. *Images are reversed if seen via a video/digital camera attached to the side/front port.

Five observation methods frombrightfield to fluorescenceSimply by changing the position of theGX71's mirror unit turret, it is quick and easyto alternate between brightfield, darkfield,Nomarski DIC, simple polarized light andfluorescence observation. The Olympusuniversal objective lenses accommodate allobservation methods. There is no need tochange the objective lens type each time theobservation method is changed. The GX71also employs super widefield eyepieces(F.N.26.5), for an efficient orientation andobservation process.
