Sir Hugh Beaver, manager of the Guinness Brewery, went hunting with some friends on November 10 1951 and they got into a disagreement about the fastest game bird in Europe and could not find the answer anywhere.The lack of information for settling bar bets gave Sir Hugh Beaver an idea and the Guinness Book of Records was conceived with the first issue, a 198 page promotion book, being published on August 27, 1955.
