After seeing the number of issues people have had with crafting WWE Universe, I have decided to post a guide, based on my knowledge of the game and specifically the Game Mode, in order to help those having difficulty. My guide will cover a range of issues, such as the Ranking system, Title matches, and using all of the WWE Universe to it's full potential. If there are any questions or issues, please post them in this thread and I will assist as much as possible. Please enjoy!

Brand Assignment

I'm not going to suggest who you put on each brand, as that it is up to each user, but I will tell you how it is used. Upon entering Superstar Management, you will notice the brand logo next to a superstar's name, as you can see above with Christian. By pressing A (Xbox 360) or X (PS3), you will be able to change the brand a superstar is on. NOTE: This will alter the WWE Universe's default cards, but if you want to have a SmackDown! superstar make an appearence on RAW, this is still possible. If you choose RAW or SmackDown!, WWE Universe will begin to book superstars on that specific brand, but if you choose any of the other possible brands (Legends, WCW, WWE, and "Locked" (ECW)), they will no longer be booked by the WWE Universe at all. However, if you wish for a member of any of them brands to make an appearence, you can do so by choosing them after pressing either "Select Match" or "Custom Match".

The Paint Tool logo is avaliable if you have a custom brand logo you would like to use for a superstar. Once again, the WWE Universe will no longer recognize the superstar and they will no longer be booked by default, so if you choose to do this, you will have to manually book this superstar in matches EVERY time.

Match Types

There are a large variety of matches in SmackDown vs. RAW 2011, allowing you bust some heads in many ways. Here we'll go over all of the match types, and what each particular gimmick is and how to deal with it.

Lest you think THQ did a straight copy-and-paste from last year, divas are allowed into a couple more match types this year. For example, they were banned from Inferno Matches last year, but now they can get set on fire just like anyone else. Be sure to check out our chart for details.

By the way, at the end of this section, we'll touch on how to use the match creator, what it can be used for, and what it can't.

Match Types

Normal Match

1v1, 2v2 (Normal), 2v2 (Mixed) Triple Threat, Fatal 4-Way, 6-Man, HandicapDivas allowed, except for 6-ManNo gimmicks; standard match type, slightly customizable by your choice of allowing DQs, countouts, and so on. (Check the subsection for using the Match Creator for details.) If you go for a mixed tag match, the rules are that the two legal participants must be the same gender: if one side tags out, the other side must follow suit or be DQed.

Inferno Match

1v1 onlyDivas allowedA temperature meter in the bottom-right corner starts at 385 degrees. All moves will raise the temperature slightly, based on damage. At 500 degrees, ringside will flare up for about 15 seconds, at which point you must drag your opponent to the ropes. If you fail (and you probably will if your opponent doesn't have significant damage), the temperature will reset down a bit. The temperature resets less dramatically each time, so after about the fourth reset, it goes down only to 450, encouraging a quick end to the match.

First Blood

1v1, 1v2 (Handicap)Divas banned

Falls Count Anywhere

1v1, 2v2, Triple Threat, Fatal 4-WayDivas allowedNo DQs and no countouts means weapons are allowed and plenty of fighting can happen outside the ring. Pins and submissions are also allowed outside the ring, unlike usual.

Hell in a Cell

1v1, 2v2, Triple Threat, Fatal 4-Way, 6-Man (Note: 6-Man version is called "Armageddon Hell in a Cell")Divas allowed, except for 6-Man

Note that the divas are restricted from some match types, which we'll mark here for you. They are allowed in most match types compared to earlier games in the series. The trade-off is that, even if divas are allowed, there is no man-on-woman violence allowed. That means if you start a one-on-one match and your first entrant is a diva, then your second entrant must be a diva as well. The only exception is a mixed tag match, but even then each team must have one diva and one male.

I posit that maybe the reason the divas have been banned from the more violent matches was because they didn't want to show a man beating on a woman with kendo sticks and sledgehammers? And it's okay now since it's two girls smacking each other? I suppose that makes some sense, really... Regardless of the reasons, I'm just happy to see them in the matches. If only real-life WWE would follow suit.

Only possible way to win is to bloody your opponent's head. Apply excessive damage to his head, then use weapons or head-targeted offense to bust him open.

No DQs and no countouts. The cell is a little bigger this year and so is the area outside the ring, so your Hell in a Cell matches are more violent this year. To exit the cell, you'll need to charge your momentum, then get near a corner of the cell outside the ring. Execute your

finisher, and you'll perform a move on your opponent to send him through one of the cell walls. At that point, you can freely walk out and around, and do whatever you want to (including climbing the cell itself).

Page 16: Guide for Svr 2011

Iron Man

1v1 onlyDivas allowedSet for either 10, 20, or 30 minutes, this is a standard match, but a score is kept. Every time anyone wins for any reason (DQ, countout, pin, submission), a point is given. At the end of the clock, whoever has more points wins.

Ladder

1v1, 2v2, Triple Threat, Fatal 4-Way, 6-Man (Note: 6-Man version is called "Money in the Bank")Divas allowedAn item hangs above the ring, and to get it, you have to set up a ladder in the middle of the ring. The problem is that your opponent(s) will be trying to knock you off in the process! The process has changed this year, so rather than having an "item meter" that you have to drain -- which basically meant that whoever goes for the item first is at a disadvantage -- it's now something more akin to grabbing the item multiple times.

Here's what we mean. Say you have a simple one-on-one ladder match, and you set your ladder in the middle of the ring. You make the first move for the item. You climb the ladder, then tilt up on the right stick. After holding it a moment, you flick down on the right stick when prompted. This, for lack of a better term, scores you a "point."

Now, it seems that it takes four points (with a lead by two) to actually pull the item down. So if you stay unmolested at the top of the ladder, you can keep flicking the stick down when prompted to pull the item off. After the fourth flick, because the opponent hasn't stopped you, you'll pull it down and win the match.

But now let's say the opponent decides to actually try to stop you. He knocks you off, climbs the ladder himself, and manages to do three flicks of his own. He's now leading 3 to 2. For you to win, you'll have to climb the ladder and do a few flicks more: specifically, you'd have to do three flicks, to get the score 5 to 3 and gain that "by two" lead.

Last Man Standing

1v1 onlyDivas allowedSimilar to Falls Count Anywhere, there are no DQs or countouts here. The only way to win is to beat your opponent senseless so he lays there and can't answer a 10-count.

Normal Submission

1v1 onlyDivas allowedThe rules for a submission match have slightly changed this year. It's now treated as a completely standard match, except that pins are disabled. You can still lose by DQ or countout, and you can leave the ring like normal and even put your opponent through the commentators' table. However, the only way to win is by making the opponent submit inside the ring.

Steel Cage

1v1, 2v2, Triple Threat, Fatal 4-WayDivas allowed

Table

1v1, 2v2, Triple Threat, Fatal 4-WayDivas allowedSimilar to Falls Count Anywhere, you win by putting your opponent through a table. To do this, you have to build up your momentum, then either drag your opponent to a table from a strong grapple or Irish Whip them into it. Then, just hit the finisher button to put them through the table and win the match.

There is probably more do it than a point system, but documentation is sadly lacking. Whatever the specifics, you must be able to climb the ladder, grab the item, and yank at it using the right stick as prompted. And, it requires each given character to yank the item multiple times to actually pull it down, so you can't just wait until the last second like you could in ladder matches before.

Wrestlers are trapped in a cage and must escape to win. Note that you can customize the match a bit and make pins and submissions legal as well, if you choose to. You can also escape through the door by whipping an opponent to the bottom-left turnbuckle, then doing any grapple. Whether you climb out or try the door, you'll play a mini-game where you must press a button as a meter fills. If you're not fast enough, your opponent(s) can stop you by knocking you down. Note that if you play a 2v2 cage match, both of you must escape to win.

Page 17: Guide for Svr 2011

TLC

1v1, 2v2, Triple Threat, Fatal 4-WayDivas allowedUnlike last year, TLC matches ladder matches with more weapons. Pinning is out: the only way to win is to climb the ladder and grab the item in the middle of the ring.

Backstage Brawl

1v1, 2v2, 1v2 HandicapDivas allowedWrestlers are in one of seven backstage areas and fight with no rules until one is knocked out. Finishers and groggy grapples typically will knockout opponents.

Extreme Rules

1v1, 2v2, Triple Threat, Fatal 4-WayDivas allowedSimilar to a no-DQ normal match, weapons are allowed here with no rules, but pins and submissions must happen in the ring. A different feature here is that you can pull out one of eight weapons from under the ring by going to the middle of the apron outside, then pressing toward the apron and pressing A (or X). You can pull weapons out in other game modes, of course, but here you get to select which weapons specifically. Further, you can burn a finisher by lighting a table or a 2x4 on fire, which you can't do in other modes.

If you fail (and you probably will if your opponent doesn't have significant damage), the temperature will reset down a bit. The temperature resets less dramatically each time, so after about the fourth reset, it goes down only to 450, encouraging a quick end to the match.

Set for either 10, 20, or 30 minutes, this is a standard match, but a score is kept. Every time anyone wins for any reason (DQ, countout, pin, submission), a point is given. At the end of the clock, whoever has more points wins.

An item hangs above the ring, and to get it, you have to set up a ladder in the middle of the ring.

The rules for a submission match have slightly changed this year. It's now treated as a completely standard match, except that pins are disabled. You can still lose by DQ or countout, and you can leave the ring like normal and even put your opponent through the commentators' table. However, the only way to win is by making the opponent submit inside the ring.

Similar to Falls Count Anywhere, you win by putting your opponent through a table. To do this, you have to build up your momentum, then either drag your opponent to a table from a strong grapple or Irish Whip them into it. Then, just hit the finisher button to put them through the table and win the match.

be able to climb the ladder, grab the item, and yank at it using the right stick as prompted.

Similar to a no-DQ normal match, weapons are allowed here with no rules, but pins and submissions must happen in the ring.

No gimmicks; standard match type, slightly customizable by your choice of allowing DQs, countouts, and so on. (Check the subsection for using the Match Creator for details.) If you go for a mixed tag match, the rules are that the two legal participants must be the same gender: if one side tags out, the other side must follow suit or be DQed.
