Students who successfully complete their Pathway program can progress to the following degree programs.
Pathway ProgramsUnderstand the Pathway ProgramOur International Year One Undergraduate
Pathway programs combine intensive
English language study, academic skills
development and academic course work.
They are carefully designed programs to
help you through the first year of your
undergraduate degree program. Joining our
Pathway program will not extend the overall
length of an undergraduate degree program.
In fact, it will guarantee places in required
courses, which may shorten the length of
your program.
Decide if the Program is Right for YouThe program is ideal for students who:
• Want to earn a bachelor’s degree in
the US
• Desire additional academic, language
and cultural support to excel at a US
university

Length of Pathway Programs Pathway Programs4-Term PathwayOur new 4-term Pathway program is
designed specially for international students
who want to start earning credits toward
their bachelor's degree at a US university
while improving their English skills.
Available in fall, winter and summer terms
(depending on your major), this program offers
more focus on English language preparation
than our other Pathway programs. Students
are able to begin their academic studies with
domestic and other international students
sooner than our traditional Academic English
plus Pathway programs had allowed.
3-Term PathwayOur 3-Term Pathway program provides an
excellent balance of academic and English
language preparation. This is ideal for most
students and has start dates available in
fall, winter and spring terms (depending on
your major).
1-Term or 2-Term PathwayThis accelerated option is designed for
students who have good academic grades
and need little or no English preparation.
Students can begin this program during the
fall, winter and spring terms.
Sample Course ScheduleThe chart below is a sample course schedule for
the first term of the 4-Term Pathway program.
Additional course samples for subsequent
terms are on the following pages. The courses
listed in the following tables are examples and
are subject to change.
Regardless of your preferred Pathway
program, you will receive the support
you need to succeed. We promise that as
a successful Pathway student, you will
progress to your degree program once
you've met our progression requirements.
Those requirements are explained in each
academic grid on the following pages.

Academic English Placement Equivalencies and Guaranteed LevelUpon arrival, you will need to take a test that will place you in the most suitable AE level.
The table below gives a realistic estimate of your expected Academic English level
based on standardized test scores.
Estimated AE Level TOEFL iBT IELTS PTEA Password
2 32-44 3.5-4.0 38 or less 2-3
3 45-59 4.5-5.0 39-43 4-5
4 60 5.5 44 6
5 70 6.0 48 7
6 80 6.5 53 8
Some students place into a higher level than the expected level; if you score lower than
the expected level you are guaranteed to be placed no more than one level lower.

School SpiritYou will find that OSU is a relaxing place.
Students dress casually wearing orange and
black to show school spirit and pride in the
university.
Campus ActivitiesIt’s important for international students to
share their cultures, learn about US cultures
and participate in a wide variety of events.
The more you get involved, the more you
will improve your English and make friends.
You can participate in more than 300
student clubs.
Getting AroundIt’s easy to navigate Corvallis. Most OSU
students don’t own a car because it isn’t
necessary; everything is within easy walking
or biking distance. Owning a bicycle is
inexpensive, it keeps you active and you
will never have to worry about parking. You
also can ride the bus for free anywhere in
Corvallis. Life is very convenient here, so you
can focus on your studies.
What to Do for FunOSU students love to attend sporting
events like football games with their
friends. There are always concerts, lectures
and performances on campus and in the
community. International students often
go out to eat together at local restaurants,
or hang out with friends at their residence
hall or apartment. There are sidewalk cafes,
rooftop restaurants, parks, bike paths, coffee
shops, farmer’s markets and lots to explore.
ShoppingYou can explore the city of Portland, or shop
all day at the outlet mall, which has famous
brands at lower prices. There is no sales tax
in Oregon, so even other Americans come
here to shop.
Being an OSU StudentOregon State University is a friendly, safe and welcoming community. OSU students study hard but also are involved in lots of activities around campus.
