December 2013 ◦ Volume IV, Issue 12 Page 2 of 4 Ft. Campbell Chapter ◦ Military Officer's Association of America

DOD has announced that one of its budget-reduction strategies for the 2015 budget is to close all the US based commissaries. This is just another example of the present ad-ministration’s attempt at slowly eroding the benefits that have been available to the military for many years in the name of necessary bud-get reductions. The DOD seems to be launching a multi-pronged attackon personnel costs and hoping that they will win out or at least get a compromised reduction in some ar-eas.At present the FY 2014 Defense

authorization bill is stalled in the Senate and will not be taken up againuntil on or after 9 December. The Senate still could consider amendments on pay, TRICARE,

concurrent receipt, and the SBP/DIC offset. MOAA is asking that we send our legislators a MOAA-suggested message in support of these amendments now. It looks as though December is going to be a very hectic month as the Senate works on all these mili-tary-benefit issues. The Senate will also have to work to solve the Medicare/Tricare reduction in pay-ments for medical service before the end of this year. A recent news release from MOAA announced that a solution to the reduction in payments was in the works, but we have all heard that before. Will Congress work to actually solve some of these issues or continue to kick the can down the road?

Fifty members and guests were present at the Ft Campbell Sportsman's Lodgeon 16 November for the 2013 Annual Business meeting. The ThanksgivingBuffet meal was enjoyed by everyone. LADIES' ACTIVITIES

December 2013 ◦ Volume IV, Issue 12 Page 3 of 4 Ft. Campbell Chapter ◦ Military Officer's Association of America

For the Voluntary Gift Exchange

Each participating member (or couple) brings a wrapped gift, cost not to exceed $25. Depending on desire, this can be one gift per couple or one gift per person. Gifts may include liquor, lottery tickets, Christmas-themed items, or any other suitable Christmas present!

Anyone who brings a gift will be allowed to participate, either individually or as a couple. All participants (individual or couple) will draw a number to determine order of gift selection.

The first participant will select a wrapped gift, unwrapit, and show it to the group. The second participant then has the option of either selecting a wrapped gift or 'taking' an unwrapped gift from any previous selector. If a gift is 'taken', the person from whom it is taken then has the option of either selecting a wrapped gift or 'taking' an unwrapped gift from any previous selector.

Once a gift has been 'taken' two times, it is locked from further selection and stays with the person in possession.

The process continues until all participants have selected and are left with a gift.
