Chapter 2. Range Tests

This section provides the test conditions, procedure and the outcome of GS2K Range Tests.

2.1 RANGE TEST PROCEDURE FOR GAINSPAN MODULE

2.1.1 Test Condition

The setup requires GS module and a Laptop with below conditions for ping test:

1. With Line of sight.

2. Without Line of Sight (Obstructions like Concrete Walls, Brick walls, etc.)

2.1.2 Test Setup

The hardware and software requirements for the test setup are as follows:

1. GS module (preferably with external antenna) and Serial to Wi-Fi Application firmware.

2. Laptop with Windows or Linux Operating System.

Figure 1: Range Test Setup

2.1.3 Test Procedure

1. Build Serial to Wi-Fi Application form SDK Builder tool.

2. Program the GS module with serial to Wi-Fi application firmware.

3. Configure the GS module in Limited AP mode and enable DHCP server in it, using the following AT command.

a. at+wrxactive=1

b. at+wm=2

c. at+nset=192.168.240.1,255.255.255.0,192.168.240.1

d. at+dhcpsrvr=1

e. at+wa=GainSpanLAP,,1

4. Open the wireless interface in the laptop, SSID “GainSpanLAP” would be displayed under wireless network. Connect the laptop to the SSID.

5. Maintain a distance of 30feet between the laptop and GS module and execute the below command using the command prompt.

ping 192.168.240.1 -n 100

6. Take the ping statistics information from the laptop.

Figure 2: Ping Statistic Information

7. Move the laptop away from GS module at a range of 50feet to 70feet and follow the test procedure 4 & 5.
