GeoScience Software Intro

GeoScience Company ProfileAs professional petroleum explorationists, we had long recognized the need for powerful, yet easy to use geo-technical software. We didn't want tortuous menu systems, large up-front costs, other major continuing costs, perpetual training, the inevitable entourage of IT support staff, etc. Neither did we wish to become dedicated specialists in the operation of a computer program, or servants to a computer department.

GeoScience Software was founded in 1989 on the basic premise that an efficient solution requires a good understanding of the problem. With a long and successful track record in all facets of petroleum exploration and development, we understand the problems. GS is the solution. Powerful technical tools that are readily accessible to a wide range of technical expertise - isn't that what we've always wanted?

GS was developed by geo-technical professionals, NOT specialized computer programmers who have no practical experience with the challenges facing general geologists, geophysicists, and engineers in finding and developing hydrocarbon reserves. This won't change at GeoScience Software. We are constantly improving and enhancing GS to quickly deliver innovative, real-world solutions to our customers. Their needs are no different now than ours were in 1989, and this

commitment to our customers will continue to drive our development efforts.

Technically, GS equals any PC product on the market. In terms of price, performance, and especially user-friendliness, it is superior. The basic manipulation of wireline and other well data through a GIS format is a fundamental part of petroleum geology, geophysics, and engineering. The high level of GS user-friendliness makes these critical capabilities easily accessible to a wide range of technical expertise, thus putting powerful tools directly in the hands of the end user and eliminating the common IT department bottlenecks. GS is therefore ideal for a wide range of applications, from exploration to development. Because of its portability, GS is ideal for wellsite operations where fast, reliable solutions are required. The GS package has been widely accepted since its introduction 19 years ago, with over 400 installations worldwide (references available upon request). Our level of support is the best in the business!

Geographic Information System (GIS) CapabilitiesGS utilizes a central GIS theme based on ArcView/ESRI "Active X" software controls. These create powerful GIS capabilities within GS that link GS's extensive well database to "real world" GIS formats where it can be integrated with virtually any other spatial information. Many vector and raster formats are supported; ArcView "Shape" files, CAD formats (DXF, DWG, DGN), GeoTIFF, JPEG, ERDAS, and MrSID image compression. There are options for layering all this spatial data to create advanced maps, along with spatial and logical queries on map layers. The opening GS menu looks similar to ArcView 3.x, so if you are familiar with ArcView it'll be very easy - it'll be easy even if you aren't!

Finally, your old paper maps can be integrated into the digital GIS system by “Georeferencing” them in GS!

A suite of Seismic functions which includes the following primary features:

Time – Depth functions from Checkshots and Sonic Log Integration.

Multi-well composite Time-Depth compilation in a map mode.

Extract “pseudo” Sonic and Density Logs from a petrophysical analysis. These logs can then be used in the Synthetics. This advantages are; better vertical resolution, elimination of "bad-hole" effects, and reduction of the statistical noise inherent in the density log. This innovative approach brings geology and geophysics together in the borehole.

Create Density Logs from Sonic using formation-specific Gardner Equation Coefficients.

Stacking Velocity utilities, including Pore Pressure prediction.

Seismic Synthetics

o Ricker Zero Phase Wavelet

o Butterworth Minimum Phase Wavelet

o User Defined Wavelet

o Integration of the Sonic log with the Time-Depth function

o RMS and Instantaneous Gain Control (AGC)

Dipmeter Interpretations

Powerful tools to extract valuable information from Dipmeter Data:

Import Dipmeter Data from ASCII Files, including Dip Quality.

Complex Structural Dip removal to calculate true sedimentary dips. Operates in a simple graphical mode.

Multi-well dip statistics operates in a Map mode to extract average dips and azimuths for any group of wells at any horizon. Excellent for regional and field studies.
