Dear Parents The Summer term is always full of extra-‐curricular activities: athletics, the Summer performance, the music festival, school journeys and school trips galore, it’s all-‐go!
Rehearsals are in full-‐swing for the Summer production of “Double Whammy”, with Years 4, 5 and 6 in good spirits and fine voice. The evening performances 6.30pm on Wednesday and Thursday next week. Tickets are allocated fairly, with Year 6 taking preference but parents of any age group who would like to watch can call Mrs Ring to check the availability of extra tickets from Monday. As we have included a matinee performance this year, there may well be a few seats available.
Just a reminder…. The show, for Year 6 especially, is tremendously important celebration of their time at Trent. For this reason, children aren’t allowed in to watch; all Trent pupils will have already seen the dress rehearsal on Monday afternoon. I’m sure you understand. Year 6 School Journey to Kent was wonderful. The hotel staff, as always complemented the children on their impeccable behaviour and (on the whole) the tidiness of their rooms – unbelievable but true! Here’s a flavour of some of their adventures:
Lunchtime at Lympne Safari Zoo
Groovy moves in the disco!
Getting dizzy at Chessington!
School Journey was a varied and exciting week: pottery, dancing, climbing, swimming, singing, being daring and being independent – the perfect preparation for Secondary school!
Athletics News We are so proud of all the children who attended Copthall on Tuesday 16th June. They
showed great team work, commitment and skill throughout the day with their behaviour being exemplary all day. Mrs Vassiliou All of this puts us in the mood for Sports Day on Monday 20th July for Y1-‐Y6 starting at 9.30am over at the cricket grounds. Refreshments provided by the PTA – thank you. For Reception class, the following day is their Sports afternoon, starting at 2pm on Trent School field. Other news around school:
Year One celebrate their amazing phonic skills with a Super Hero Day
Year 2 investigate scent scientifically
Match Funding – help us to raise the money for the new toilets project! Can you help? There is a fantastic scheme whereby employers provide funding for organisations such as the PTA through their employees. It is a very simple yet immensely useful tool from which extra funding can be raised for our school. Why not check if your employer has signed up to this scheme? Below is a list of companies (by no means exhaustive!) that we understand currently match gifts donated by employees. If your employer is not listed, please contact your Human Resources department to find out if they operate a matching gift scheme. In most cases, the company will match your donation pound for pound up to a specific level.
Year 3 use their growing grammar knowledge and confidence to good effect writing descriptive sentences to edit and improve.
Year 4 get creative painting and researching native American history and Cityscapes.
Year 5 had a non-‐stop week: Music festival, allotment visiting and still time to smile!
As part of their Corporate Social Responsibility programs, many companies encourage staff to get involved in community projects, including School Fairs, Fireworks Nights, Bake Sales etc, by offering to match any funds they raise. This matched funding is a really easy way to increase our fundraising revenue and can easily add as much as £2,000 to the takings of one of our events. We are fortunate to have parents at the school who work for companies that do match funding including Barclays, Reuters, NatWest, BP, GSK, Royal Bank of Scotland, Shell and Sky. So, if you work for any of these, ask your HR department how you can get your company to match fund a H.S.A event. And, if you work for a company that isn’t listed above, it’s still worth asking the HR department if they do match funding or even if they are prepared to start doing it!
