PROBLEMS BEHIND HOMELESSNESS
Low National Wages❏ National wage: $7.25
Cost of living in certain states: well above $10.00.
❏ “Declining wages have put housing out of reach for many workers: in every state, more than the minimum wage is required to afford a one- or two-bedroom”
❏ Almost 15 % of the American population was in poverty last year (U.S. Census Bureau).
❏ 47 million in poverty, the largest number ever in American history.

High Unemployment❏ According to the Bureau
of Labor Statistics unemployment is currently listed at 5.5%
❏ Forbes stated that the real rate of unemployment is 15.8%.
❏ Without employment many youth are forced to find shelter outside of the traditional family settings.
❏ Joblessness coupled with residential instability forces many individuals to become chronically homeless.

Lack of Affordable Housing
❏ Ever since the 2009 recession the United States has dealt with extremely high rates of rent coupled with stagnant rates and decreased job growth.
❏ “The lack of affordable housing has lead to high rent burdens, overcrowding, and substandard housing.”
❏ The elimination of affordable housing such as single-room apartments has resulted in a massive increase in the amount of homelessness.
