Value Differences

This is an image of children from a variety of cultures.  It shows that there aren't any two people that are exactly alike in the world, and that because of this we should value our differences.

Making Connections Between Content Areas

The students in this picture are examining and measuring sand samples in order to study the animal life of Puget Sound. This demonstrates how seamlessly math and science can be integrated.

Recognizing Inequalities and Injustices

  

These two images show that inequalitites and injustices still exist in today's shcools. In the first image, students in Zimbabwe are still doing math on paper (notice there are not even chalkboards or calculators). In the second image, the children are learning science and interacting on one of the newest pieces of technology, the whiteboard.

Understanding Others

This student is creating an image after reading Mufaro's Beautiful Daughter, an African tale written by John Steptoe. Not only did the students in this class learn about a different culture, but they also learned about graphing and the weather of Zimbabwe, incorporating science and math. The lesson demonstrates and integration of math and science while learning about a different culture.
