• Collaboration designed to jointly engage in Research Programs that

identify protein biologic and small molecule therapeutic candidates

directed at targets or pathways that culminate in Phase I clinical

trials that demonstrate Proof-of-Mechanism (PoM).

• CTI: Centers for Therapeutic Innovation (CTI), a newly created entrepreneurial research unit at Pfizer,

Inc.

Opportunities & Challenges

Opportunity to identify emerging science and find compatible industry

partner, with potential to commercialize.

science and industry research, goals and culture

Examples of Challenges:

•Cultural differences (e.g. decision making, data interpretation / next steps, internal pressure points

and processes)

•Managing timelines, procedural differences in project execution

•Perceived lack of flexibility of partner due to very focused objectives

•Understanding the culture of publish and academic reward system vs. industry success metrics

•Changing priorities at companies, unrelated to program science, can quickly change interest,

scope or scale of project

•Importance of true project champion at company key to success
