NEW FEATURE RACES IN 2020/21

As part of the 2020/21 racing season 2 new feature races have been

added.

They are the Dart and the Good Friday Cup.

The Dart will be an Open class 275m series held at Cannington in

early December.

The Good Friday Cup will be a Listed 405m feature held at Mandurah

with the final on Good Friday.

FINISH ON LURE RACE MEETINGS

The following upcoming meetings will be scheduled as Finish On Lure

meetings:

Cannington Wednesday 5 August

Cannington Wednesday 19 August

Cannington Wednesday 16 September

Cannington Wednesday 30 September

Qualifying Trials will remain as Catching Pen finishes.

WEEKEND SCRATCHING PHONE DIVERT FIXED

RWWA IT Services have come up with a solution to the issues that

have been experienced with Telstra mobiles getting through to the

weekend scratchings line.

If for some reason the solution fails and you cannot get through

on your Telstra Mobile device, in the first instance try and use your

landline or another networks mobile phone.

As a last resort leave the full scratching details on the nomination

recording line.

WA DISTANCE & WA SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIPS

This year the National Finals have been cancelled, however we will

still be running our usual qualifying state races.

Traditionally to be able to run in this series there have been strict

domiciled requirements that need to be adhered to.

The decision has been made to partially relax these this year whilst

still maintaining the spirit of the race having WA residing greyhounds

representing the state.

Therefore too qualify to compete in either series a WA greyhound

must have been domiciled in WA before 1 July.

As per last year the WA Distance will be run as a one off final, with

the field selected by a grading panel. This will be run on Saturday 8

August.

The WA Sprint series will be a heat and final event, with the heats run

on Saturday 8 August and the final conducted on Thursday 13 August

at Cannington as part of the SKY Channel feature production night.

GREYHOUND INJURY FULL RECOVERY SCHEME (GIFRS)

Under GIFRS the ownership of a greyhound sustaining an eligible injury at a race meeting is transferred to RWWA’s Greyhounds as Pets (GAP)

program, following which the injured greyhound is transported to emergency care and all associated costs of surgery and rehabilitation are

covered by RWWA. If suitable, the greyhound will then be rehomed post recovery through GAP’s standard processes.

This scheme complements the Greyhound Injury Surgery Rebate (GISR), where RWWA offers a financial contribution, for eligible cases, to help

the trainer and owner pay for the costs of veterinary care.

QUALIFYING TRIALS

All Qualifying Trials are conducted prior to the first race at the respective race meetings, unless otherwise advertised. The number

of Qualifying Trials drawn may vary depending on the number of races drawn and the number of spare kennel bays.

Should nomination numbers warrant, consideration may be given to conducting trials on the backup days of Thursday (Mandurah)

and Saturday (Cannington) utilizing surplus nominations. Alternatively a stand-alone Qualifying Trial session may be considered.

WA Racing Update – 24 July 2020

Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) would once again like to thank all owners, industry participants and race clubs for their understanding and patience as we have navigated our way through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Please see below a reminder regarding current COVID-19 restrictions being implemented for the WA racing industry.

On-Course Attendance

As the State has transitioned into Phase 4 of the WA Government’s roadmap, we have been able to welcome patrons back to the track to once again enjoy the race day experience.

In order to allow the public to attend trials and race meetings, certain conditions still do apply:

The 2sqm rule, inclusive of staff, must be applied to venues that hold more than 500 patrons; To ensure compliance with the 2sqm rule, restricted areas are limited to essential persons only,

including mounting yards, parade rings, kennelling areas and stalls; and Trackwork remains restricted to essential persons only.

Race clubs must ensure their COVID Safety Plans are updated and continue to be implemented prior to re-opening to the public.

The above restrictions will be removed upon the implementation of Phase 5. The WA Government have advised that the tentative date for Phase 5 will be Saturday, 1 August 2020.

Interstate Travel

In regards to interstate travel, please be reminded that:

Any WA licenced racing participant, or member of their household, who is travelling or returning from interstate travel and are exempt to enter WA must notify the RWWA Stewards as soon as possible; and

Any persons (including essential racing personnel) who resides in the same household as someone who has returned from interstate and is required to self-isolate/quarantine, must not interact with any other licenced racing participants during the 14-day period. Such persons will also not be permitted to attend any WA racecourses including race meetings, trials or trackwork.

No one will be allowed into Western Australia if they have been in Victoria or New South Wales in the previous 14 days, unless they meet new exemption requirements.

Racing Animals from Victoria

Please be advised of the following update regarding the transfer of horses travelling from Victoria:

Any horse travelling into WA from Victoria must go to a non-licensed property for a minimum of 24 hours and cannot proceed directly to any licensed property.

Following this the horse can be floated to a licensed racing premise. Under no circumstance should the person who floated the horse into WA be directly involved in the transfer of the horse to a licensed racing premises.

Any equipment or other items that have travelled with the horse should be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected prior to entry to the licensed premises.

Social Distancing and Hygiene Practices

Please ensure that the following physical distancing and good hygiene practices must continue to be adhered to at all times when on-course, including:

Staying home if you are unwell. Maintaining distance from others where possible. Avoiding unnecessary physical contact with others — e.g. physical greetings such as handshakes and

hugs. Washing your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds with soap and water or an alcohol-based

sanitiser. Covering your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, using a flexed elbow or a tissue. If you use

a tissue, dispose of it immediately and appropriately.

NOTICE TO BREEDERS

CONTINUING DELAYS WITH DNA RESULTSDue to the Covid-19 situation in Victoria delays are continuing to be experienced with the processing

and receival of DNA results.

In order to allow greyhound breeding to continue whilst these issues are occurring persons applying for

pink breeding cards will be required to complete a RWWA declaration acknowledging that due to delays

with DNA results, they will be provided with an exemption to breed on the proviso that DNA sample

results are pending.

The DNA exemption form is available on request via Licencing & Registration RWWA.
