Last Call for Advent Devotionals Our theme for Advent is “Get Going to Bethle-
hem- Discovering Joy Along the Way.” We
thought it would be fun to put together an Advent
devotional booklet and have the artists or writers
among us offer devotionals or pictures of what this
holiday season means to us. You can write about a
special Christmas you remember, how the scripture
inspires the holiday joy for you or even draw a
scene for the booklet. We are still in need of about
fifteen writers or artists to help make the booklet
happen! Call Teresa in the church office for a scrip-
ture. Go ahead and call, because if you don‟t, we‟ll
call you.
AARP Driver Safety Program Greggton is hosting an AARP Driver Safety Program
course on Wednesday, November 9, 2011, from 8:00
a.m. – 12:00 p.m. This course provides a review of driv-
ing strategies and techniques that help improve driving
skills in order to make safer drivers. It is offered to any-
one age 50 or older, and all are welcome. If you are a
veteran, the course is free. If you are an AARP member
the cost is $12, and if you are a non-member, the cost is
$14. Tom Hunt will be leading the course.
Live 58 Come join us on the
evening of November 6 to
watch 58: The Film. This
film is the inspiring true
story of the global Church
in action. Witness bravery
and determined faith in a
journey from the slums of
Kenya to the streets of
New York. Confront the brutality of extreme poverty
and meet those who live out the True Fast of Isaiah 58
and create stunning new possibilities for the future. 58:
invites audiences to discover the incredible work of
God through His people in our hurting world. For more
information, check out live58.org.
WE HAVE EVERYTHING WE NEED. WILL WE
DO EVERYTHING IT TAKES?
Senior Adult Luncheon on November 9 As part of „Our Thanksgiv-
ing‟ month, senior adults are
invited to a Senior Adult lunch-
eon on Wednesday, November
9th at Noon.
This is a way for our church
staff to say, „thank you‟ for all the love that you have
given us and this church family. We are serving up
something Methodist (which probably means that
chicken is involved), and we are also going to have a
time where Ricky and the staff will take your questions
and talk about the mission of our church family. This is
a free event, so sign up today in the church office or in
your Sunday School classroom!

Corny Fun for the Youth! On Saturday, the youth of Greggton went to the
Danville Corn Maize in Kilgore. At dusk, the youth
piled into the vans and departed for the fun of the maze
in the cool air of autumn. After taking a wrong turn and
arriving 100 yards from the Corn Maize parking lot, we
took a route around the hay barn, which lay in our track
and arrived at the Corn Maize. The youth spent two
hours popping out of the corn and spooking their
friends as they made their way through the mazes. The
evening was concluded with a frightening haunted hay-
ride as the sound of chainsaws roared and creepy actors
terrorized the youth. We hung out for a few minutes
and the youth enjoy hot chocolate and snacks. As we
waited, the actor with the chainsaw returned to the
Corn Maize office with a dripping nose... someone did-
n't appreciate the chainsaw. The youth had a great time
together in fellowship of friends!
Trunk or Treat was a huge success! Those who at-
tended enjoyed eating hot dogs, playing on the inflatable
slide and train, playing games and eating lots and lots of
candy. We had the opportunity to serve over 150 kids,
many of whom had not ever been to our church. A BIG
thank you to every person that contributed in some way-
whether by donating candy, baking something, helping
with the games, serving food
or just by praying.
This past Sunday
the children began
practicing for their
Christmas play. They will be performing a play called
“Sing with Us a Christmas Story” on December 11th at
6pm.
The Voyagers Pioneer Club (1st and 2nd grade kids)
class has been learning about friendship and how we
forgive or ask to be forgiven. They learned that Jesus
does not want us to keep score about forgiving but to
forgive others as He forgives us. They are also working
on the International Fun activity award. Last week they
learned about the Japanese art of paper folding and
made an Origami hat.
SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS Agape: Dean Hinton led today‟s lesson on “Facing Your Fear,” to eleven class members. Prayers for Ricky‟s family, our absent
members, and those traveling.
Alethea: Cathy played and we sang “Love, Mercy, and Grace” and “He Keeps Me Singing.” Thirty-five sang with zest! Lew
Dunn taught our lesson about living as God‟s people. The lesson was based on Matthew 5:1-2. Keep Billie Bennett, Wanzelle
Finley, Sally Myrick, Leonard Stuckey and Ricky‟s family in your prayers. Leonard is scheduled to have surgery Monday, No-
vember 7. Happy birthday to Charles Wilson and Jerry Nichols.
Friendship/Sunshine: Neil Joseph brought an inspiring lesson based on Matthew 5. Prayer for those ill and suffering as well as
for Ricky‟s family and the loss of his brother-in-law. Keep getting better Margaret!
New Beginnings: We had a small group present this morning for our lesson on "Abraham and Sarah: Waiting Together" taught
by Terry. We missed all of you who were out this week. New prayer concerns this week: the family and church family of Ricky
Ricks' brother-in-law who passed away on Friday night after suffering a stroke on Tuesday. He was the pastor of a church in
Tyler. Also prayers for Susan Mosley, Brenda Neely's mother, and Jaylynn Jeffers' father. The deadline to turn in your Opera-
tion Christmas Child shoebox is Nov 13 - 15. The lesson next week will be "Isaac and Rebekah: How God Makes a Match".
Welmaker-JOY: Gail Corr brought the class together and reminded everyone it is time to bethinking about our new class presi-
dent. Thanks to Gail for delicious refreshments. LaJuan Carpenter announced our class Christmas party will be pot luck in the
Community Room on December 2. Happy birthday to Marvin Murph, Nita Hopkins, and LaJuanda Emery. Prayer concerns for
Connie Brooks, Sonny & Mary Broome, Billye Early, Howard Edelman, LaJuanda Emery and her granddaughter, Ron &
Johnnie McCune, Jane & David Snipes, Wilma & Joe Stafford, and Joe Stone. Forty-one heard Kate Hart teach an interesting
lesson connecting the book of Job to marshmallows.
Operation Christmas Child Shoe Box Project By sending a shoe box filled with small gifts of toys, school supplies, and hygiene ar-
ticles you can bring joy, hope, and the good news of God‟s love to needy children around
the world. Copies of the informative small pamphlet, “How to Pack a Shoe Box,” are
available at the church. Your packed box should be delivered to the church from Sunday,
November 13 thru Tuesday, November 15.
For individuals or groups choosing to use it, Room 504 in the education wing will
serve as a workroom on Wednesday mornings November 2 & 9 at 9am. Materials such
as rubber bands, scotch tape, wrapping paper and empty shoe boxes will be available for you use.
Members of the Adult Ministries will be available to answer questions and assist in preparing your packages.
Please DO NOT put any money in the shoe box but give the suggested donation for postage to Sonya in the church
office. The church will write one check for all the postage.
Homemade Cheesecakes Benefiting Asbury House Sam Litzenberg‟s famous cheesecakes will be sold on Sunday, November
13th benefiting Asbury House Child Enrichment Center. Sam Litzenberg is re-
nowned for his cheesecakes, even making cheesecakes to be served in the Austin
Governor‟s Mansion. He was the executive chef in the Ginocchio Hotel and First
National Bank of Marshall and operated the Hungry Potter restaurant at Marshall
Pottery. The cost of each cheesecake is $25.00. Please consider giving these wonder-
ful cakes as gifts this holiday season.
For questions regarding the purchase of cheesecakes, contact Jerry or Lisa Harris
at 903-297-8044.

Greggton to Host LIHN
November 6-13 Longview Interfaith Hospitality Network, or LIHN, is
a city-wide, church-based ministry to support homeless
families as they receive job training, search for jobs, and
permanent housing. This program is a tangible way for us
as a church to show God's love and to help families se-
cure jobs and permanent housing.

DAY BY THE FELLOWSHIP HALL!
Three-fold Chords Christmastide will soon be upon us. This will be the
third year that the Three-fold Chords singing
group has planned to go caroling at four local nursing
homes. We are currently scheduled to visit two of them
on Sunday afternoon December 4, and 2 more on De-
cember 18. Mark your calendars and plan to join us on
this mission.
Thank You Patricia, Destiny, Brent and Kelsey and I would like
to thank you for your love and kindness as we have
mourned the loss of my brother-in-law, Brother Lou
Gary Thomas. We were blessed by his love and care for
each of us, his great big family, and the people of the
churches that he served.
Now we are blessed to be loved by this great church
family. We cannot begin to tell you how much your
love and care means to us.
Thank You.
With Hope and Joy in Christ,
Ricky Ricks
