Expo

201

0 The Greening of Corporate America: Siemens, with McGraw-Hill Construction, published The Greening of Corporate America Report in 2009. The research inves-tigated attitudes and trends in America’s corporate boardrooms to gain an under-standing of how green and green building is woven into corporate strategy. Learn about these research findings from Siemens’ project leader, including the progress corporate executives have made in actively greening their organizations and how you can benefit from this trend.

Environmental and Energy Lessons From a World Somewhere Near Earth: Dr. John Bacon, Systems Integrator for the International Space Station Program, will address the systems engineering of the ISS and the imperative they have to recycle and to conserve in maintaining an engineered, balanced environment. ISS is the ultimate model of a green building. Learn about the solar power and gas and water recycling techniques used on ISS, and explore some innovative and game-changing sustainable technologies developed by Johnson Space Center engineers that are be-ing widely deployed in the developing world.

Social Media, what it means for you: The Stewart Perry Company presents Chris Brogan, one of the world’s leading experts in social media and New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of Trust Agents. Join this social media work-shop to learn about the latest trends in social media and gain step-by-step insight into how you can leverage social media to spread awareness of your core compe-tencies, gain trust in the marketplace and expand your overall reach in your target market.

The Legal Panel: A panel of experts will discuss emerging regulation in the areas of environmental, construction and tax law. Learn about the latest tax incentives for green buildings, what to expect in new regulation and how to mitigate your risk.

Optimizing Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Blends for Buildings and Facilities: A practical course covering public policy, private market trends, and assets of optimized blends of energy efficiency and renewable energy. Hands-on examples of cutting edge efficiency (HVAC and controls, building envelope lighting and appliances) and renewable energy (combined heat and power, solar thermal and electric, geoexchange, small wind, biomass and fuel cells, advanced battery banks) to illustrate market utilization of exiting commercial technologies.

Detroit, Dallas & Despotism: a 3D view of Sustainability: Eric Corey Freed walks you through his creative and bizarre world of sustainable design. Beginning with the events of the past year, you’ll journey through the decline of the city of De-troit, building a net energy sustainable block in Dallas and the strange forces plotting against greening our country. Experience the rapid advancements in green building and discover the latest systems to save energy, water and resources. You will laugh, cry and never look at your world quite the same way again. Drawn from the most advanced research, this talk uses rich graphics, multimedia and never before seen data to alter your view of green building.

0 Building Innovations: Learn how technology and collaboration drive innovation without exceeding budgetary constraints. The President of DuPont Building Innova-tions will answer these hot topics as he explains what he sees as critical changes in the building industry going forward in a green environment. Additionally, he will de-tail how one of the largest companies in the world, DuPont, was forced to make some big changes in order to adapt and survive in the new global green economy. Case Study: Sustainable Fellwood: From the team that authored The Green Building Bottom Line (McGraw-Hill 2008) comes this proposal: a deep dive into a mixed-use, mixed-income, all green redevelopment of a 27-acre parcel minutes from the center of historic Savannah. Learn about the experience of developing what HUD recognizes of one of only two sustainable public-housing projects in the nation.

Case Study: KAUST (King Abdullah University of Science + Technology): A Lesson in Bridging the Gap Between Tradition + Sustainability: KAUST’s new campus is the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s first LEED certified project and the world’s largest LEED Platinum project. Because the research and development of renewable resources drives KAUST’s research agenda, sustainable development is integral to KAUST’s overall mission. By integrating sustainable measures into the site planning, the community, the building design and the campus operations, the university is demonstrating new ways to build in the region and promoting responsible steward-ship of the environment.

Case Study: Design for Sustainable Human Settlements: This case study arises out of CSIR appointment by the Department of Science and Technology in January 2008 to “develop, test and implement innovative technologies aimed at contributing toward sustainable human settlements.” The objective of the research is to achieve comfortable affordable housing that performs as well as or equal to middle income housing, are durable and quick to build, readily alterable, easily extendable, less de-pendent on municipal services, and able to facilitate sustainable human settlements. Accordingly the CSIR designed, developed and tested an alternative house using in-novative technologies to improve the performance of the house.

Creating a Successful Plan for LEED Documentation: Attending this presenta-tion will give attendees a thorough understanding of the entire LEED certification process, starting with assembling a project team and building a LEED project score-card/checklist, to registering the project in LEED Online v3 and inviting team mem-bers, navigating through LEED Credit Forms and preparing documentation submittals for formal review. The presentation will focus primarily on the LEED 2009 LEED for New Construction & Major Renovations Green Building Rating System and is ideal for professionals who are or will be involved in documenting projects towards LEED certi-fication.

Residential Panel: What Green Building Means to Regional Home Builders: What is the direction of green building for the nation? What is the direction of green building for the region? What are the environmental benefits of green building? What are the financial benefits of green building? What mistakes should the first time green builder know before starting his first home?
