Happy February!! The month of love! Everywhere you look in the stores is a sea of red and pink! I recently bought a box of valentines to pass out to my class at school. As I was choosing between the boxes of "Minions" and "Peanuts," I couldn't help but think about how much fun it is to give and receive a valentine. Way back in the dark ages, when I was growing up, the valentines were not themed like they are now. Each box had an assortment of different
types and it was fun selecting the one each person was going to get. In the many years since then, I have come to realize that it doesn't take a valentine to spread love and joy. It is what we do on a regular basis to help others get through life. It's the thousand times eve-ry day when you touch people even when you didn't know you were. I encourage you to hold extra tight to the ones you love and be intentional in loving every one you come in contact with.
We have good things coming our way over the next few months! Daisy Masminster will be teaching a "funky fun flour bread board" after the February meeting. Stephanie Hauser is teaching in March. And April 21-23 is the annual retreat!! I hope you will be able to join us for all of these events! Happy Valentine's Day!
Linda :)

I want to thank all of you who painted ornaments or a box for the 2016 Christmas Raffle. You made this another profitable fundraiser for our chap-ter and without you, we could not raise this money. So many thanks on be-half of the GCDA Membership! We have some new members, so I think this is a good time to review a few points: In order for you to receive your “member-in-good-standing” status, you must paint 6 Christmas ornaments or a Christmas raffle box or incentive piece. If you turn them in by October, you will receive tickets for a chance to win the incentive prize. Starting in January, you will receive 50 tickets, February, 45 tickets, and so on. If you paint a raffle basket or an incentive piece, you do not have to paint ornaments. If you wish to paint ornaments in addition to a basket or in-centive piece, you may do so, and we can always use more ornaments for the boxes. It’s a new year and we’re starting off great! The following members turned ornaments or a basket in in January and will receive 50 tickets for an in-centive piece: Suzanne Fairbanks Mary Galioto Pat Hull Susan Parrett Nancy Vincent You can turn your ornaments in to me at any meeting. Please contact me if you have any questions about the Christmas Raffle.

Embroidery Update
We have a source to embroider fabric items for us with the GCDA logo. The cost is $10 per item. I have received items
from Barb Winterberg, Anne Dick, Ann Boren, Gayle Wissel, Pat Hull and myself to be embroidered and they are at the business
now being done. I will bring them to the February meeting.
If you would like to have something embroidered, please bring the item to me at the February meeting. I must have a mini-mum of six (6) items at a time to take to the embroiderer.
Whatever your item is, you should prewash it (if practical and do not use fabric softener) place it in a zipper bag with your name on it with $10 cash or a check (made out to GCDA). If you wish to put your name on the item, please do. If you want the logo in a particular place, please use tape to indicate where you want the logo (shirts are typically on the left side so you do
not need to tell me that). If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
Melanie Wilmhoff [email protected]
Painting Tip
When setting up painting space, keep a bar of ivory soap on top of a paper towel, next to your water container.
This is for washing out your brushes as you finish with them. Saves trips to the sink. Also keeps brushes CLEAN with
no paint buildup.

This year our service projects do Not include painting Walker Bags! Instead we are painting
Memory Boxes! I am currently checking various craft retailers trying to get the best price on pa-
per mache boxes. We will donate the boxes to the Good Samaritan Hospital’s high risk pregnan-
cy unit to be given to Mothers who have lost a child. I'm hoping to have the boxes available soon.
For our second Service Project we will be collecting art supplies (new) to be donated to a needy
school. If you know of any school that needs art supplies please let me know. Once again thank
you GCDA Members for your generosity! You make my job easy and inspiring,
Peggy
