DescriptionThe Great Blue

Heron has a blue-gray body, blackish-yellowish legs, and a reddish or grayish s-shaped neck. Its long neck, long legs, and feathers help it survive. The Great Blue Heron is about 38-59 inches in length and weighs about 5-8 pounds.

HabitatGreat Blue Heron live

in the coastal life zones. It builds its home out of shrubs, sticks, twigs, and dry grass. Its nests are usually found in trees along water. Great Blue Heron can also be found in Alaska, Québec and Nova Scotia .

DietThe Great Blue

Heron eats mice, crayfish, insects, small fish, frogs, and snakes. It whenever it is hungry. To catch its food it wades into the water, then waits for a fish to swim by. Its long legs and long neck help it get food.

Life CycleThe Great Blue

Heron lives 1-10 years. An adult’s life is very simple, it just takes care of young, and wades and flies around to find food. It's gestation length is 28 days and it usually has 2-6 babies a year.

Interesting Facts The Great Blue

Heron nest in groups.

Great Blue Heron are the biggest heron in North America.

They are not on the endangered species list at all.

In May new heron join the colonies.
