Evaluation

This is the digital photography to create a story, I have taken pictures of models expressions which could be used to tell a story. This method has lots of qualities to it and can look very professional as there real life pictures. This method has produced good quality work by using models to show the expression we can see the emotions clearly and simply. This is a really easy and quick way to get you images, it is not time consuming but you have to make sure your images have the right light which can take time. Once you know what you are taking a picture off and know what you need to do then the actual taking of the pictures was quick and simple compared to the illustration. The audience which would benefit most from this is children as there clear pictures which would be good for a Childs picture book. Digital photography would be a good way to make a concept picture book for children as they can teach a child what elements look like in real life e.g. a book about the animals. The resources I used when carrying out these pictures was a camera for taking the pictures, models for demonstrating the different emotions so I could take the photos and a computer to upload my photos on to. Doing this method further you may start to use props and costumes to emphasise your ideas and make your digital photography more interesting. Similar products to digital photography is children's books where they are teaching the children about animals and other subject. They use the digital photography to engage children and teach the children exactly what things look like

Evaluation

This method produces minimum quality work this is because it is hand drawn material which if you are not a fantastic artists then your work looks average. It has its qualities as you can make fairy tales and myths look very traditional and vintage which may go with the theme of your story that you are writing. I thought that the quality of this work was good but they are other methods which the work looks much more professional. This method is hard to make look professional as its up to you how it goes. This is a very time consuming method. You have to put a lot of time and effort into get a perfect picture and make it look as much of a high standard as possible. If you wanted to do something quickly then I would not recommended illustration as it includes a lot of hard work. Similar products to this are illustrated children's books which a lot of books have. For example a book like peter rabbit consists of all its original illustration. The story itself is very quirky and vintage which the illustrations fit into that theme off old fashioned stories. The audience would been children ages 5-12 it has a larger age range as small chapter books consist of illustrations at some points for example the fairy books for girls. Children like to look at something while reading to make their books more exciting and come to life which illustration does. The resources I used to do this method work paper- to illustrate on, pencil- this is what I used to draw with, Coloured pencils- Put colour to my pencil work to make it aimed to the audience. Rubber- rubbed out where I went wrong. Overall I really liked the methods because all though it was time consuming and hard work it went into my vintage children's book theme of Repunzel and makes my fairy tale story look very traditional and quirky

. Creating a comic book effect can produce a cartoon look on my pictures which would be perfect for producing a comic book using a filter such a thrushold and cut-out my real life picture adjusts to comic book style. In my pieces of work this method produces some quality work. You can make interesting faces using light and dark tones. I wouldn’t use this method on my project as its not the look I want to go for. This method is quite time consuming as you have to carry out the procedure of having to move sliders to find the right look you want to go for. The sliding bar to determine different brush strokes or different strengths was awkward to get it exactly how you wanted it. For what I want to do I think this could work if I use a filter that looks like drawn work. Similar products to this are published comic books on the shelves in book stores these have this inspiration of creating abstract like images. The audience that this method would benefit and be aimed at the most is young teens and adults. This method would be ideal for comic books which I read by young adults and sometimes children but also in graphic novels which are read by adults. They would be a overall male audience as males are more likely to read comic books and graphic novels. The resources I used were Photoshop to create the filter on the picture, the internet this is where I gathered my image from and a computer to perform this all on. Overall this is a good method for a graphic novel but I want to do a children's book so I don’t think this method would be the best for my work.

Rotoscope work

EvaluationI used the method here of Rotoscoping this is where you create an image look cartoon and graphic like. The quality of this work is very high it make your work look very professional and makes it look very much a graphic compared to the Comic book method or the digital photography method. This method would be good for a children's book and I think this could be a possible outcome for my work. Again rotoscoping takes a while to complete as you have to go quite into detail for your image to look the best it can. Its very time consuming and you need to concentrate to get the best outcome. Similar products to this one is The rotoscoping we used on Graphic T-shirts because it is a good and professional looking way of creating a graphic. They are very high quality which makes the graphic look of a high standard to sell to people. Rotoscoping has a large target audience. It depends who you aiming your product at to what the target audience is. For my idea of a children's story book The rotoscoping would have a target audience of young children 5-8 as a fairytale is read to children of this age. The Rotoscoping makes fun image to go along with the story for that child to look at whilst reading. The resources I used to rotoscope where, Computer- To use the software on, Photoshop- This is how you rotoscope using the polygonal lasso tool. It is quite simple to perform. Overall I could use this for my story as I like the way you can create professional looking graphics without anything looking homemade. It is suitable for a children's story book and suitable for the age range and idea that I have in mind. Rotoscoping is a very adaptable method as it can be used for all ages and lots of different idea idea and concept for e.g. a young adults graphic novel.

Overall Evaluation The experiments were a good way to find out which methods were appropriate for my product. They give me guidance on the way I want to go with my product and what will work best. I felt like the experiments went very well and directed me and gave me inspiration of the style I was looking for. The illustration method and rotoscope method was the most popular to me. I believe these two methods could work the best with the ideas I want for my children's story. Doing this experiment influenced me to produce a children's book. This would work well with Illustrations as doing a fairytale will look really good with a traditional look to the images. The rotoscope also would work with what I want to do because the rotoscope will make my images look child like and I can filter the graphics to give them an artist affect. Which may give my graphics better quality and look more professional. Comic book and The digital photography will not work as they are two modern and would not fit into my theme of traditional/vintage fairytales. They are to harsh and would look a lot better if I was doing a graphic novel. I will need to practise my drawing a lot more as that would need to look very professional to make my product of a high quality. If I was to carry out illustration I would have to spend a lot of time making sure my illustrations were really good, I would go about this by practising a lot and taking my time to draw the illustrations out to make sure if was good work. The illustration method inspired me to keep my graphic narrative very simple and traditional to reflect the traditional fairytale I want to use cute old English writing which is easy to read and combine the traditional fairytale with the modern world.
