Community Event: Roots in Blue, USAF Band of Mid-America

Monday, April 18 Pine City High School Auditorium

Free

Roots in Blue is the newest performing group of the USAF Band of Mid-America. This group of highly trained professional Airman-musicians performs throughout the Midwest and the South, bringing an eclectic combination of old and new Amer-ican rock, blues, country and folk music, often with a spin ranging from bluegrass to Scotch-Irish influences. This six piece ensemble features a variety of instruments such as Irish pennywhistle, accordion, bodhrán, upright bass, guitar, banjo and even bagpipes along with the traditional rhythm section of piano, bass, drums and plenty of vocals.

Roots in Blue celebrates America's diverse cultures through its unique approach to music. A versatile ensemble, Roots in Blue is adaptable for many types of events. Whether performing military functions, community concerts, school assemblies or outdoor festivals, Roots in Blue's programming suits everything from large venues to small acoustic shows and everything in between. No matter what the audience, Roots in Blue is sure to bring you an unforgettable show!

The Band of Mid-America has a long history of entertaining the American public and promoting esprit de corps within the military. The unit strives to inspire the hearts and minds of our men and women serving around the world and to tell the Air Force story through the universal language of music. Each year, the Band of Mid-America performs for millions of people throughout a ten-state region from the upper peninsula of Michigan to Arkansas.

Commitment is KeyThere is no question about it: Commitment is a key to success whether it's in a marriage, a business, personal and professional growth, or sports. What made Larry Bird one of the best players in basketball? He was considered slow, and many thought he could not jump. Sometimes it almost looked like he was playing in slow motion. But Larry Bird succeeded as a player because he was totally dedicated to success. He practiced more, played harder, and had more mental toughness than most of his competitors. He got more out of his talents than almost anyone did. The same was true with Tom Watson, the great golfer. Tom was nothing special at Stanford, considered just another kid on the team. But his coach still talks about him, saying, "I never saw anyone practice more." Russell Wilson, quarterback of the NFL Champion Seattle Seahawks has always been considered too short to play the pivotal position. But it is his dedication to improving at every practice and every game, constantly watching film of upcoming opponents, and ultimately, goal-setting to do whatever is necessary to win each game that has made him a football household name, of late. You see, the difference in physical skills between athletes doesn't tell you much. It's the quality of their commitment

that separates the good players from the great. People who are committed to success are willing to do whatever it takes, as long as it doesn't harm anyone else. Everything they do reflects their commitment. Ask yourself the following questions and think about your answers: "How strong is my commitment - to my career, my relationships, my personal growth? How much of my time and energy do I give these things? Do the results I get reflect my level of commitment?" Now here is another question for you to consider: How do you feel about your answers?
