As the 500th anniversary of the Ref-
ormation approaches, this beloved
hymn of Martin Luther provides the
theme for the series, which focuses on
the divine gifts that come down to us
through the birth of Jesus. Each week
one of the sermons will “unwrap” one
of the precious treasures delivered
to us in the holy Child wrapped in
swaddling clothes.

CHRISTIAN MEN’S FELLOWSHIP
Will take a short break during the holiday season and will meet again after the first of the year. Please watch the newsletter for more information.
LIBERTY CENTER OCTOBER 2016 - report of those served: mom & dad with 3 children, mom & 3 children, mom & 1 child, 5 single men, 10 single women. We are currently in need of funds to provide Christmas for the residents at the center. We provide presents for all adults and children as donations allow. We believe that everyone should have a gift to open on Christmas morning. We usually have around 22 residents at Christmas time and the funding for this project is estimated at $800. Anyone that would like to contribute to this fund should mark “resident’s Christmas” on the memo line of their check. If more funds are received than what is needed the remainder will be used throughout the year to see to our residents needs.
The following information is from the Mission Moment presented on October 2 describing the new
communion practice at the 7:45 a.m. service. This was presented by Pr. Henry Seibert for us to understand
God’s gift for us.
Please cup your hands. Make a manger. Take a beggar’s stance. In the background you hear
the song Here Is Bread. We will sing that today as we come to receive HERE the bread and wine of
Holy Communion.
Today we do that in a different place. Five steps and 30 feet closer than we usually travel. It is
here in an effort to be increasingly hospitably sensitive ... But in reality it is not about our going
somewhere, but Jesus coming to us. “Here, by the Spirit, Christ is with us here.”
Wherever “Here” is - hospital bed, nursing care center, college chapel, Bible camp, youth
gathering, army post in Afghanistan, home, worship center - Jesus comes to us “Here” in the bread
and the wine of Holy Communion.
You my find this change somewhat difficult to accept; you my not even like it, but let this fact
sink in and override - Jesus loves you - you. He loves you and comes to you this day to give
forgiveness and life and strength to serve. And so we pray, as Luther prayed: “Come Lord Jesus, be
our guest ... “Here.”

Thank you to those who wished me well before and after my surgery and for all the prayers sent my way. I enjoyed the nice visit with Candy Wingard when she brought me the delicious chicken noodle soup prepared by the Jess family. A special thank you to Maureen for her visit before my surgery. Her prayer took me from anxiety about my surgery to a feeling of ease.
God bless you all, Ardis Curliss

QUARTERLY NEWS FROM THE ENDOWMENT BOARD
The Endowment Board met on October 31, 2016. The 3rd quarter investment report indicated the current value of the Endowment Fund at the end of the quarter was $1,102,256.52. Money to be distributed from the Endowment Fund is based on the earnings from the investment in the Fund. Contributions to the Fund come from gifts to Grace Lutheran. The 4th quarter of the year is a good time to see if a tax deductible contribution would be beneficial for your financial situation for the year or for estate planning purposes. The Endowment Board determines what Christian Stewardship opportunities the Board will distribute money to each year. There will be an opening on the Board for 2017 as well as one Board member seeking re-election. Members serve a 2 year term. Congregation members interested in serving on the Board may submit their names to the Church office. Election of new Board members occurs at the annual congregational meeting.
[The annual meeting will be held Sunday, January 29, 2019 at 11:15 a.m.]

current address or if you leave an order of “Temporarily Away”, we are
charged postage when your mail is returned to us. If this happens, it will be
necessary to take your name off the mailing list until we are notified of your return, to
